Materials Needed to Make This New Year’s Hedgehog Craft

How to Make the New Year’s Hedgehog Craft Printable

Step 1. Cut out the individual parts: the main part, or the larger “Happy New Year” card. This is going to be on the outside. Next, cut the inner cards (with the hedgehogs), two New Year balls, and the To/From tag.

Step 2. Apply glue to the top part of the inner cards or the ones with the hedgehogs. Adhere the lower part of a New Year ball to the top of each one. Allow the top of the bows to remain unglued.

Step 3. Take both the inner cards and glue them together with the blank sides facing each other, including the tops of the bows. Trim away any overlap that can be seen from both sides.

Step 4. Fill in the To/From tag with a pencil, pen, or marker. Add a special message. If you would like, glue this above the slot box fold.

Step 5. Next, take the larger outer card and fold it in half horizontally at the slot box. Carefully cut the slot open at the fold.

Step 6. Score the solid lines with a scoring tool, then fold the lines inward.

Step 7. Now, slide the inner card through the slot in the larger card.

Step 8. Lie the card flat and add glue to the top and bottom flaps of the outer card.

Step 9. Place the inner card on the top of one end and fold the outer card, pressing the top and bottom together to stick. Allow drying.

Step 10. You can now slide the outer card up and down to see the hedgehog pop-up with his Happy New Year clock!

  • Small, sharp scissors (this requires adult supervision)
  • Glue or glue stick
  • Scoring tool (you can use a dime or a wooden chopstick)
  • Ruler, or anything with a straight edge
  • Pencil, pen, or marker
  • Adult hands helping little hands

Instructions

  1. Cut out the individual parts: the main part, or the larger “Happy New Year” card. This is going to be on the outside. Next, cut the inner cards (with the hedgehogs), two New Year balls, and the To/From tag.
