Topiary Craft FAQs

What is a topiary design?

Topiary is the art of clipping and pruning twigs and foliage; crafting different shapes such as geometrical shapes, etc. This practice has been introduced by the Romans, as seen in their well-crafted and designed gardens.

Which plant is suitable for the topiary?

Slow-growing, small-leaved, and evergreen shrubs are most suitable for topiaries since they can easily be shaped. However, you may grow impatient with shrubs as they take as much as three years to grow.

In this case, you can use ivy plants, which grow faster and can be shaped as well.

Can you plant a topiary in the ground?

Yes, you can plant topiary in the ground. Not only are topiaries are great container plants, but they can also be planted in the ground.

You can use a container soil mix for plant pots, and well-amended soil for in-ground planting.

Why is my topiary dying?

One of the most common causes is that most topiaries end up parched. Check the soil and water it thoroughly.

You can check the surface of the soil daily to monitor its water requirement.
