It is full of history that dates back to the country’s founding and most impactful acts.

Three of the country’s core documents– the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address–were written here.

As such, American tourists will want to check out the many historical sites when they visit Pennsylvania.

You’ll find many famous landmarks, battle sites, and old buildings.

You can also check out Pennsylvania Dutch to see living history in the form of the Amish, a people who keep to a simplistic lifestyle that shows how peaceful life can be.

Then there’s Philadelphia, a city that’s always sunny and plays host to some of sports and film’s most famous moments.

So pack up a bag and head to the Keystone State if you like history.

There’s plenty to see and do, and we’ll show you the best places to go.

While you’re there, you can also grab a beer in the many classic pubs dotted throughout the city.

You can even indulge in some sports betting, as Pennsylvania is the largest state to allow wagers on sports betting.

Or you can just take in the joys of nature.

Gettysburg National Park

Things To Do In Pennsylvania

This is both the most beautiful and solemn location in Pennsylvania. Gettysburg was the site of one of the most brutal battles in the American Civil war, where 51,000 lives were lost.

Later, Abraham Lincoln commemorated the tragic event with the famous Gettysburg Address.

Gettysburg now has several museums and exhibits about the war, including the biggest collection of Civil War artifacts in the entire country.

Those interested in military history can watch reenactments of the battle.

Those who would rather enjoy the park for its expansive scenery will find several horseback riding trails.

Philadelphia

The big city is a great place to find both history and the latest trends.

Philadelphia is no exception. The city has plenty of museums dedicated to its role in the Revolutionary War, as well as several old sites that are supposedly haunted.

Foodies can try recipes like the classic cheesesteak sandwich and search for the best hoagies in town.

And of course, there are the steps that Rocky ran up during the iconic sequence in the legendary film.

Philadelphia has a thriving sports fandom, with several teams that have been around for decades.

The Sports Complex has some of the best places to drink and watch the game, as well as snack on greasy food.

There’s also beer festivals galore and many Halloween attractions for the whole family (and some that definitely aren’t for kids!).

Independence Hall And Liberty Bell

You can’t visit Pennsylvania without seeing the Liberty Bell.

Seeing the bell and the accompanying hall are free, although you may need to reserve tickets ahead of time in case crowds get too full.

And it will be great to learn more of the context around the cracking of the bell by visiting Independence Hall and seeing what Pennsylvania was like at the time.

Andy Warhol Museum

Take a stop in Pittsburgh for a different look at Pennsylvania city life. Art aficionados will find the Andy Warhol Museum particularly illuminating. The exhibit chronicles Warhol’s work from his early period to his last years, and of course includes his most known works.

Strasburg

Perfect for those who want to see the Amish or love trains.

Strasburg offers steam-powered train rides through Amish lands.

It also hosts two museums: one dedicated to the history of the railroad and one all about toy trains.

The toy train museum has an attached shop that is every hobbyist’s dream.
