The Bugatti Veyron was the first vehicle to make waves in the automotive industry with its $1 million price tag in 2009. Since then, there have been a number of cars that have exceeded that $1 million price point (and we aren’t just talking about rare classic cars). Automakers are working on developing some cutting-edge technology and have made some seriously beautiful machines. Here is a look at the 10 most expensive cars in the world for 2024.
10. Bugatti Divo $5.8 Million
Unsurprisingly, you’ll see more than one Bugatti on this list. After all, they were the first car manufacturer to put a production vehicle out with a $1 million price tag. So, it’s only fitting they continue that trend. The Divo is something to behold. It was built as a tribute to racing driver Albert Divo. He is most famous for his Targa Florio victories in a Bugatti during the 1920s. Production was limited to 40 cars, one-fourth of which are registered in Dubai, India.
9. Huayra Imola Roadster $6 Million
Pagani is behind the development of the Huayra Imola Roadster. It is meant to be a track-focused variant of the Huayra Roadster, with the name “Imola” coming from the Imola circuit in Bologna, Italy. This is where Pagani does much of its testing on its vehicles. Only eight Imola Roadsters are planned and they haven’t yet announced a price point for what is sure to be an astounding automobile. However, given the price of the Imola coupe ($5.4 million), it is safe to assume the roadster will cost around $6 million. It could even be more, considering the limited number that will be made.
8. Pagani Codalunga $7.5 Million
The Pagani Codalunga was born in 2018 when two collectors approached Horacio Pagani with an idea. What if we took the Pagani Huayra and gave it a longtail? It paid homage to the Le Mans racecars of the 1960s. Being all about exclusivity, Pagani only produced five tailor-made Codalungas. Each one of them was sold before the car was even announced to the public. According to the DuPont Registry, it is priced at $7.5 million, making it one of the most expensive cars in the world today.
7. Mercedes-Maybach Exelero $8 Million
You may not have expected to see a Mercedes on the list. While they are considered a luxury car brand, they tend to have relatively affordable vehicles when compared to the others on this list. The Mercedes-Maybach Exelero is a concept car that was produced in 2005. Typically, concept cars aren’t fully functional, but this one is. It was created to test out the Carat Exelero tires and it seems like something Batman would drive in the Animated Series. The Mercedes-Maybach Exelero was featured in Jay Z’s “Lost One,” but the car doesn’t make public appearances often. There is only one in existence and it is currently held by a private German car collector.
6. Bugatti Centodieci Around $9 Million
Next up on the list is another Bugatti. The name Centodieci is Italian for “110.” It was created to celebrate the brand’s 110th birthday. It debuted in 2019 and only 10 were produced, making it super limited. The Bugatti Centodieci made its way onto the market at $9 million, with all 10 units being purchased rather quickly. Today, the Centodieci is already selling at auction for $4 to $5 million more than its original price.
5. Rolls-Royce Sweptail Around $13 Million
The Rolls-Royce Sweptail helped mark the beginning of the carmaker’s Coachbuild program. Like the Mercedes-Maybach, it is a one-of-one. The Sweptail was completely handmade and took more than four years to complete. Although it was inspired by the coachbuilding in the 1920s and 1930s, it has a sleek design and flowing roofline that lets you know it is from the modern era. When it debuted in 2017, it was the most expensive car of its time. Now, it hits the middle of the list in 2024.
4. Bugatti La Voiture Noire $16 Million
Surprised to see another Bugatti? The La Voiture Noire is French for “the black car.” It was meant to pay tribute to the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. Jean Bugatti owned a Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic, of which there were only four ever made. Unfortunately, the car disappeared during World War II and it has still never been recovered. There was only one ever made, but Bugatti did make a “budget” version of the car due to high interest after it debuted in 2019. At the time, it was the most expensive car to ever be sold, with prices on the web ranging from $16 million to $19 million.
3. Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta $17 Million
Pagani eeked its way into the top three with the Zonda HP Barchetta. Only three of these were ever made, with the third and final model costing $17 million. This car is something to behold. It was created for Horacio Pagani and was a way to mark the end of the Zonda production run. Other than Pagani himself, two other buyers were lucky enough to get their hands on one. Sadly, one of them crashed the vehicle. This was the most expensive car in the world until it was edged out by number two.
2. Rolls Royce Boatail $28 Million
Rolls Royce topped Pagani’s most expensive car in 2022. The price for the Rolls Royce Boatail sits between 28 to 30 million. It is the second vehicle from Rolls Royce’s Coachbuild program and it was inspired by yachts from the 20s and 30s. Of course, the interior is everything you’d expect from a Rolls but what sets this one apart is its odd, yet appealing, backend. The trunk opens up butterfly-style In it there is an entire hosting suite including a parasol. Not to mention, there is a fridge for the owner’s beverage of choice. So, if you wanted to pull alongside the road for a five-star picnic you’d have no problem. Only three were ever made which places it at the top of the list.
1. Rose Noire Droptail $30 Million
Rolls Royce tops the list with the Noire Droptail. Like some of the other most expensive cars, it is a bespoke model. It was the third vehicle that was dropped under Rolls Royce’s Coachbuild program and only four were ever made. Handcrafted, the first model took four years to complete. Everything about it is unique, down to the bespoke paint color used for its exterior, which was inspired by the Black Baccara rose. What’s really interesting about this Rolls is that it was equipped with a removable timepiece that was specifically created for the car, furthering Rolls Royce’s commitment to luxury and attention to detail.
The World’s Most Expensive Cars
Taking a look at the world’s most expensive cars in 2024, there is a lot to be said about craftsmanship. Many of these vehicles were limited production and, in some cases, created for one person. Many were hand-built. Each of them changed the automotive world simply by existing.
