As a 32-year-old woman, I have really been loving my 30s so far. This decade is a great time to reflect on your life. Your tastes have likely changed and your priorities have changed with it. While I’ve held onto plenty of things out of sentimental value, some things just aren’t worth keeping around. Here are eight things you should consider parting ways with in your 30s.
1. Cheap, Fast Fashion Pieces

Fast fashion was my go-to in my 20s. There were so many cute pieces and it was fun to add new outfits to my wardrobe. However, as I’ve entered my 30s, I’ve started to value quality over quantity. Many of those cheap pieces of clothing didn’t last long and I decided to shift focus to investing in well-made timeless pieces. Not to mention, cutting down on fast fashion benefits both your wallet and the environment.
2. Old, Worn-Out Furniture from College Days

We’ve got an old futon we’ve been dragging around from apartment to apartment. However, it’s wildly uncomfortable and we hardly ever use it. Worn-out furniture like this can often make your space feel cluttered and even outdated. You should think about replacing some of these older pieces with something more durable and stylish that reflects your current tastes.
3. Junky Costume Jewelry

I have a plethora of costume jewelry in my closet. Some of these pieces are fun and I’ll still wear them from time to time, but many of them are just collecting dust. As I entered my 30s, I wanted to focus on higher-quality jewelry that reflected my style. For instance, I typically opt for understated hoops or diamond studs, a watch, and a minimalist necklace rather than big chunky, plastic accessories. If you’re like me, you might want to consider ditching your costume jewelry.
4. Unframed Posters and Tacky Wall Art

My room was once covered in unframed posters and tacky wall art. In fact, my husband and I continued to have our office decorated this way until recently. It was fun, but we’ve shifted focus to more stylish pieces throughout our home. Overall, it gives off a more refined look and is polished. A well-framed piece can make a huge difference in creating a space that you’re proud to call home.
5. Outdated Electronics

I’m bad about holding onto outdated electronics. I don’t need that DVD player anymore or that stack of DVDs. But I feel like the moment I get rid of it I’ll regret it. Honestly, you won’t. These items often just take up space and can make your home feel cluttered. Instead, we’ve invested in smart TVs and wireless speakers that are more functional in today’s day and age.
6. Cheap, Mismatched Dinnerware

When we first moved in together, my husband and I went to the Dollar Store and bought two plates, two bowls, two cups, and two of each kind of silverware. That’s what we lived on for a very long time. In more recent years, we’ve inherited some beautiful china and decided to ditch our mismatched pieces (though we’ve kept some things around for our kids). Eating on well-designed dinnerware also adds a touch of elegance to your everyday routine.
7. Old Sentimental Clothes That No Longer Fit

I’m still holding on to a lot of clothing that simply doesn’t fit me anymore. Having two kids changed my body a lot and even if I get down to that size again, my hips still likely won’t fit into it. Whether you’re clamoring to hodl onto a high school sweatshirt or jeans from your 20s, it’s time to let go. Your closet should reflect who you are today, not who you were a decade or even a year ago.
8. Excessive Party Decor from Your Wild 20s

Some of my house parties were fairly infamous, but I had to let go of some of the decor I’d held onto over the years. These items were so much fun to look at and remember good times, but I’ve left those days in my past long ago. Instead, I’ve focused on buying some things like matching wine glasses and other elegant touches to use during my gatherings.
Embrace the Evolution

Rather than holding onto things from your past, you should embrace change. Let go of some of these outdated items. Remember, you aren’t letting go of the memories, you are just creating a space that is more aligned with your current values. So, say goodbye to these eight items and make room for the new you!
