Tie Dye Jello Shots Recipe

Fill each shot glass half full of the gelatin/vodka mixture.

Using toothpicks or a small spoon, place a small amount of the food coloring gel on the end of a toothpick, and stir a different color of the food coloring gel into the cups (i.e., Neon Pink, Aqua, Yellow, and Green.  You can make these any color you choose, or all one color if you prefer).

Step 4. Place in the refrigerator for an hour to set.

Step 5. Remove from the refrigerator, and fill shot glasses with remaining gelatin.

Using toothpicks, place a small amount of the food coloring gel on the end of the toothpick, and color the top layer in an opposite color, to make the jello shots appear to be tie-dyed.

Step 6. Place back in the refrigerator to set completely, at least 2 hours for best results.

Step 7. Serve, and enjoy!

Makes 12 Jello Shots.

NOTE:  Place a small amount of the food coloring gel on the end of a toothpick to color the gelatin mixture. You can use more food coloring gel, and make the shots bright, or less and make them pastel. Place just one color on the end of a toothpick, using one toothpick per color.

Jello Shots FAQ

Can I add food coloring to Jello shots?

Use unflavored gelatin for this. You can mix in your colors when the mix is still liquid. You can add more color to achieve your preferred hue.

Can you make Jello shots in advance?

Yes, you can make these in advance. They can last in the fridge for 3 to 5 days up to 2 months.

What alcohol is best for jello shots?

Vodka and white rum are the best options for jello shots. Vodka is the most neutral when it comes to flavor. This will allow your jello shots' flavor to shine. However, you can also use gin, whiskey, tequila, or brandy for jello shots.

Can you put too much alcohol in Jello shots?

No, you can’t. Too much alcohol in your jello shots won’t make your jello set properly. This will be runny and you won’t be able to achieve the right consistency for your jello shots because it will never set.

Can jello shots go bad?

Technically, they don’t go bad. On the other hand, they do dry out. It is best to put them in an airtight container and freeze them to preserve the flavor of your jello shots.

Will Jello shots set in a cooler?

Yes, they will set anywhere once it has cooled but if you want to know how to make jello shots set quicker, place them in a cooler.
