Some of my family are not oatmeal lovers, but when I made this delicious Slow Cooker Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal, as soon as they smelled it they could not resist trying it. It is one of the easiest, and healthy meals to have in the morning, just add the ingredients in the crockpot and when you wake up the next morning, you will get a whiff of the scrumptious aroma of cinnamon and apples. A hearty, nutritious breakfast is ready to eat right away.

This is a quick and easy set and forget it recipe using everyday ingredients that can be found in your pantry. The main ingredient is the oats, add in the water, and spices and the apples and you have yourself the sweetest, hearty oatmeal

Slow Cooker Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal Instructions

Making this Slow Cooker Apple – Cinnamon Oatmeal is super easy, you add oats, water, cider, apples, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt to greased or lined slow cooker crock and stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Actual cooking time will vary depending on your slow cooker, so check for doneness after 5 hours and adjust cooking time accordingly. Allow cooling slightly before spooning into bowls and topping with fresh chopped apples, pecans, and some real maple syrup, if desired.

TIP:

Do not substitute any other type of oats for this recipe. Cooking times are based on using steel cut oats only. 

It very important to either line or heavily grease the sides of your slow cooker crock before preparing this recipe. If you skip this step, the oats will stick to the sides and will be very difficult to remove.

Which Oats Are Best For Slow Cooker Apple – Cinnamon Oatmeal

Steel-cut oats can be used but expect them to very chewy and fairly dense. Old-fashioned rolled oats are the best when it comes to the variety to use, they give a creamy, smooth texture.

Are old Fashioned Oats The Same As Steel Cut Oats

Steel-cut oats are oat groats that have been cut into two or three pieces, for a relatively unprocessed product. Rolled or old-fashioned oats are made by steaming and rolling oat groats for faster cooking. Quick oats are rolled oats that have been chopped into smaller pieces for even faster cooking. 

Can You Store Cooked Oatmeal

You can store cooked oatmeal in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days or the freezer for 1 month.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. steel cut oats
  • 3 c. water
  • 1 c. fresh apple cider
  • 2 medium apples, cored and diced
  • 1½ T. honey, preferably local
  • 1 t. ground cinnamon
  • ½ t. ground nutmeg
  • ½ t. ground allspice
  • ½ t. salt, to taste
  • To serve:
  • 1 medium apple, cored and diced
  • ½ c. pecans, chopped
  • Real maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Add oats, water, cider, apples, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt to greased or lined slow cooker crock and stir to combine.
