A Guide to Preparing for Cryolipolysis

A Guide to Preparing for Cryolipolysis

Liposuction is still a popular fat reduction procedure, but cool sculpting in Utah is making its way into many households. Cryolipolysis takes only about 35 minutes for many body areas. During the process, cooling plates bring down the temperature of fat cells to cause irreversible damage.

If you’re scheduled to have this procedure with a qualified plastic surgeon, how do you prepare yourself?

No blood thinners and tanning agents before the procedure

Blood-thinning pharmaceutical products and food supplements should be out of your system before undergoing cryolipolysis. The reason behind this is to decrease the risk of severe bruising. The procedure entails suctioning and massaging of the target area, which means a bruise is likely to appear afterward.

Bruising should resolve after a few days, but it would take longer if the bruising is more severe than expected. A doctor’s advice on the matter is forthcoming since you have to stop taking medication a week or so before the procedure.

Don’t stop taking aspirin or any other blood-thinning drug without your doctor’s knowledge. Because of the bruising effect, anti-inflammatory medications should be discontinued at least a week before the procedure as well.

For a similar reason, avoid subjecting the area to tanning agents prior to the procedure. Tanning makes the skin more sensitive, which could result in bruises and wounds. If your skin breaks during the process, it will be discontinued and delayed until the skin heals completely.

Setting out on the day of the procedure

On the day of the treatment, you don’t have to worry about finding someone to drive you back. Cryolipolysis is an outpatient procedure and does not involve surgery. So yes, there will be no needle filled with aesthetic, and no-scalpel at the ready for cutting skin.

It is safe and effective, with a reported 20% to 80% fat reduction as a direct result. When you are getting ready for your appointment, wear comfortable and loose clothing. The plastic surgeon will place gel on your skin, and you don’t want your clothes to get in the way.

You don’t want the gel all over an expensive pair of underwear as well. Disposable clothing would be available, but it makes sense to bring a change of clothes just in case it gets messy. You must be ready for a procedure that lasts between 35 to 60 minutes.

Eat a light meal, especially if you are scheduled for treatment on two or more areas of the body. Lastly, bring something to watch during the procedure if you don’t think you’ll sleep through it. It could take a while, so you can use the time to catch up on your favorite shows online and on television.

Coolsculpting is safe and non-invasive. During the procedure, you’d feel several different sensations dominated by tingling, pulling and intense cold. Be ready for aching and cramping sensations as well. If you believe in the procedure’s benefits, you should just try to relax and enjoy the results.
