Wild Adventures: Extreme Outdoor Activities For Summer

Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, summer 2020 is going to be unlike any other summer than any of us have experienced. The travel restrictions that have been put into place are going to make it difficult for people to get out and explore this summer.

But that doesn’t mean that you have to stay cooped up inside your house all summer long! There are lots of extreme outdoor activities for summer that you can use to try and make the most of the warmer months this year.

So, which summer outdoor activities should you take part in first? It really all depends on how much of a thrill-seeker you are and what you feel comfortable doing. Only you can decide how you’re going to spend summer 2020.

Here are a bunch of extreme outdoor activities that you should participate in before the end of the summer.

Wild Adventures: Extreme Outdoor Activities For Summer

Downhill Mountain Biking

The coronavirus pandemic has actually made it very difficult for people to get their hands on bikes. People have been buying bikes up in droves, which has made it nearly impossible for the average person to find a bike for a reasonable price.

This might prevent you from taking a nice leisurely bike ride around your neighborhood. But it shouldn’t stop you from taking part in downhill mountain biking if you happen to live in the general vicinity of downhill mountain biking trails.

You can bring your own bike to one of these trails if you would like. But you can also usually rent one and experience what it’s like to fly down a trail that’s filled with all kinds of twists and turns while sitting on a mountain bike.

Downhill mountain biking is guaranteed to get your blood flowing and your adrenaline pumping. It’s one of the best experiences you’ll ever have while sitting on a bicycle.

Ziplining

While downhill mountain biking can be a lot of fun, it can also be a lot of work, especially if you’re not in the best shape possible. You’re going to feel the burn in your legs while you’re peddling up and down hills all day long.

If you’re not up for the challenge that will come along with downhill mountain biking but you still want to experience the thrill of flying down a mountain, you might be able to go ziplining this summer.

Ziplining won’t require a whole lot of effort on your part. Once you make your way up a mountain or big hill, you’ll simply need to get strapped in before you zipline right back down it.

But it’s an excellent way to provide yourself with an instant shot of adrenaline. It’s also a fun way to see the world from a different vantage point than you usually do.

Bungee Jumping and/or Skydiving

Studies have shown that about 5% of people suffer from a condition called acrophobia. It’s more commonly referred to as a “fear of heights.”

Bungee jumping and/or skydiving will obviously not be one of the best outdoor activities for summer for these people. They’re better off going with something that takes place a little bit closer to ground level.

But if you want to make some memories this summer, think about going bungee jumping or jumping out of a plane and going skydiving. These two extreme activities are guaranteed to give you great stories for days.

Cliff Jumping

If you like the idea of feeling weightless for a few seconds but don’t love the idea of bungee jumping or skydiving, you might be wondering whether or not there are any other options for you. The answer is a resounding “yes!”

You can get almost the same feeling that you’ll get when you go bungee jumping or skydiving when you go cliff jumping, albeit for a shorter period of time. It’ll seem like you’re weightless when you jump off a cliff and go plunging down towards the water below.

You should, however, be very careful when cliff jumping. You shouldn’t ever jump off a cliff if you don’t know exactly what awaits you down in the water.

You might end up jumping off a cliff into water that is very shallow if you take this approach. You might also end up jumping off a cliff into water that is filled with something that could do great harm to you.

Rock Climbing

As you’ve no doubt noticed by now, jumping off of and out of things is going to be a great way to ensure you have a fantastic summer. Of all the things to do outdoors, there is nothing quite like putting gravity to the test by going bungee jumping or jumping off a cliff.

But these aren’t the only ways to enjoy your summer! You can also participate in something like rock climbing to get the juices going.

There are so many places throughout the U.S. where you can go to get a great rock climbing experience. Some of the most popular spots include:

  • Red River Gorge in Kentucky
  • Joshua Tree National Park in California
  • Acadia National Park in Maine
  • Yosemite National Park in California

Whether you go rock climbing for a single day to blow off some steam or go on a week-long rock climbing adventure, you’ll challenge yourself in new ways during every climb you make. It makes rock climbing one of the best all-around outdoor activities for summer.

Canyoneering

Would you like to take your love for rock climbing to the next level? Then you might want to consider trying what’s known as canyoneering.

Canyoneering involves exploring the insides of canyons and everything that surrounds them. To do this, you’ll need to hike, swim, climb, and do whatever else it’s going to take to get a closer look at canyons.

There are some inherent risks that come along with canyoneering that you should be aware of before you go for the first time. You’ll need to be ready to deal with everything from falling rocks to flash floods.

But these things are a part of what makes canyoneering one of the most exciting outdoor activities for summer. You’ll feel so alive when you’re working your way through a canyon and seeing what it has to offer to the world.

Hunting

Many people don’t associate the summertime with hunting. They assume that hunting is one of the extreme outdoor sports reserved for the fall and winter months.

But in reality, there are lots of exciting hunts that you can go on when it’s hot outside. You can hunt for animals that you wouldn’t even think about hunting at most of the other times of the year.

For example, you can go hunting for:

  • Wild hogs in places like Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia
  • Black bears in Idaho
  • Pronghorn antelope in Wyoming
  • Burmese pythons in Florida
  • Canadian geese in North Dakota

The hunting population has declined dramatically over the last decade or so. But that could be, in part, because people aren’t aware of the fact that they can hunt for things other than just deer.

If you’re a hunter or someone who is thinking about getting into hunting sometime soon, you should consider going hunting during the summer to see what it’s all about.

Target Shooting

Would you like to practice shooting your gun or guns that you’ve never used before without necessarily taking aim at an animal while hunting? You’re more than welcome to do this if you would like!

Target shooting has turned into a very popular outdoor activity in the summer with many people heading out to perfect their aim. You can learn all about guns and improve your shot by leaps and bounds when you go target shooting on a regular basis.

Before you head to a target shooting range, though, it’s a good idea to invest in a high-quality gun. You should think about going with something like the Sig Sauer P365 or a similar gun.

Regardless of which gun you decide to go with, it’s important to keep gun safety in the back of your mind at all times. From cleaning your gun to handling your gun to firing your gun, you should be as safe as you can be when using it.

There is no better way to work on gun safety than by spending your summer with a gun in your hands.
