For many people, the issue is that they don’t know how to exercise.

You might not have been taught how to work out in the gym correctly, or you might not know how to begin running regularly.

However, you can combat this by either following a set gym routine, or by getting help and advice from a personal trainer.

Alternatively, the problem might be that you don’t know how to play a sport you’re interested in.

For this scenario, it’s best to join a club that offers beginners’ sessions.

Time

You also might not be able to exercise regularly if you don’t have the time.

This could be if you work long hours, or if you have to look after your family throughout the day.

While this can be frustrating, you can try and incorporate movement into your daily life.

You could take a brisk walk during your lunch break at work. Or if you’re cleaning the house, you can try and do it in a physical way to try and get your heart rate going.

Anxiety

For others, anxiety might be getting in the way of exercising regularly.

This is often associated with going to the gym. A recent study conducted by European lingerie specialists Hunkemöller is especially illuminating on this topic.

Their study reveals that women are often put off by the environment in the gym.

Over a quarter of women feel anxious in the gym, and almost 61 per cent would prefer to work out in a female-only space.

Indeed, 22 per cent of women who felt this way said that it was because they felt as though they were being stared at in the gym.

Men can also suffer from gym anxiety: 16 per cent find that they don’t know how to perform exercises properly, while 17 per cent find the equipment intimidating.

Losing motivation

Another problem is a lack of motivation.

Over a long period of time it can be difficult to maintain the motivation to exercise regularly. However, you can combat this by exercising with friends, or by setting yourself targets to achieve.

Fitness

Fitness levels can also lead to a lack of exercise. If you’re unfit, the thought of running can be painful, and you might be put off.

In this situation, you should try and build your fitness up slowly and allow yourself to improve, before gradually exercising at a higher intensity.

Exercising regularly can be difficult, even if you love sport and a healthy lifestyle.

However, by working out what the issue is and by tackling it with the advice above, you can soon get back to exercising consistently.
