After listening to all his wise wisdom and thoughts on the videos, I felt like I could get rid of all this baggage I’ve been carrying around since childhood.
The exercises MADE ME think and at first I was like, I don’t like this, and I don’t want to continue because I don’t want to remember certain events in my life.
See all the DON’TS in that last sentence, geez! However, Dr. Phil well he doesn’t care about all that, he wants you to think, talk, and then resolve. I was getting upset at the questions, but that was only because I was made to think and figure out why I do what I sometimes do. I bury everything but still hold on to all the negative labels, thoughts, and visions. Why don’t I ever reflect on the good that happened back in the day that made me so loving and caring? Being asked to identify moments, people and choices in my life weren’t hard, but I did all the negative ones.
My choices throughout my life have molded me on who I am today; I do beat myself up over a couple of events that happened that were my fault. I need to take accountability, work on making better choices and move on. When you start this course, it is not something you can do in one day, but I guarantee you it is well worth the time you put in it for sure. Don’t be afraid to get personal- you need too, or else you won’t learn or move on. I was scared and angry, but I got over it!
Now I can’t change what happens to me in the future, but I sure can change how I react and internalize the situation.
After writing down my labels, I was stunned how little I thought of myself and why I figured I was those things, like Fat, Worthless, and Dumb. Wow, huh those are my filters, my self-talk, my labels are all making me feel insecure. No wonder I’m depressed. What hit home the most is when Dr. Phil said in a video…if you wrote down your labels in a resume do you think you would get hired, hell no! No one would want someone who thinks so low of themselves. I need to use different words to describe myself and stop dwelling on the past. People make mistakes in life all the time; it is how you deal with it that makes or break you. I’m broken now but will be fixing myself with Dr. Phil!
