3 Signs You May Be Overworking Yourself (And Some Great Ways to Relax!)

While a job is an important part of almost every adult’s life, it’s crucial to make sure that you don’t lose yourself to your job. You should aim to excel, but not at the expense of your family and health. If you want to know what the signs of being overworked at your job are, read on. 1. You Have No Time for Yourself

The first warning sign that you’re being overworked is if you have practically no time for yourself. This includes time to work on things such as home improvement projects or crafts in which you’re interested. Keep in mind that 56% of households in the United States craft at least once every year. If you find that it’s practically impossible for you to spare time for such activities, which you may enjoy alongside your children if you have any, take a good look at your job. This is not sustainable in the long term, and that’s why you must be mindful of your time and check to see if you need to make some life adjustments.

2. It’s Hard for You to Relax

Another sign that you may be overworking yourself is if you find it extremely hard to relax. If you can spare some time to relax but still end up too wound up and anxious to rest, this is a problem. While the world’s workforce is comprised of 70% of talent that aren’t actively looking for a job and 30% who are, you don’t have to feel as though your life revolves around your job. You should be able to cater to your needs and still have time for yourself, your family, and your friends. This should be an easy and relaxed time during which you aren’t stressed or still mentally at work, something that will have a negative effect on both your physical and mental health.

3. Your Physical Health Is Worsening

Finally, if your physical health is deteriorating and there’s no solid explanation for it even after visits to your doctor, it may be a result of overworking. This may leave you more stressed and unable to live your life to the fullest, enjoying every aspect of your life as you need to. If you’re losing or gaining weight and catching infections like the flu more easily than the other people around you, these are all signs of potential issues with your immunity that should be addressed as soon as possible. You could improve your health by spending more time outdoors, or simply resting. If you have the time, consider indulging in your garden throughout the year. Keep in mind that pruning a plant while it’s dormant makes it easier for the plant to make a recovery. This can be done in the late fall or winter, keeping you busy through the colder months as well.

How to Relax

If you can manage to take a break, one way to do it is to spend time with the people you love. Play games or just sit back and talk, whatever you enjoy doing the most. You could also go for walks, work on a hobby that you have, and even learn a new skill or two. When you set aside the time to do these things, make sure that you fully immerse yourself in the activity so that you can enjoy it to the fullest.

Don’t let your job take your life away from you. Do your best to balance it with the other activities in your life, including relaxing, and you may actually have an easier time progressing in your career!
