Why It’s OK For Women To Gamble

Why It’s OK For Women To Gamble

Gambling isn’t often thought of as a women’s habit. We’re not supposed to be interested in that. It’s a game for men or boys, who bet on sports teams or visit sports tracks to bet on horses and dogs. We might occasionally have been invited to dress up and head to the casino for the night, but very few people picture women sat around the table when they think about what a typical casino might look like. And that’s a gender stereotype which needs to be challenged. There should be no barrier to modern women enjoying a roll of the dice or a game of chance every now and then. And it’s not something we should be made to feel bad about, either. Ladies – there’s no shame in the occasional gamble. In fact, statistically we’re less likely to be problem gamblers than men.

Things have changed a little in recent years, and the perception of who gambles, and how they go about it, is beginning to shift. The world of gambling is beginning to become more welcoming to women, and we’re finally starting to see venues both virtual and physical become more accepting of us. It’s not all high stakes and high drama like Molly’s Game – it can just be a way of entertaining ourselves and perhaps winning a little money at the same time!

Gambling Has Changed To Suit Us

It probably started with the internet – and probably online bingo in particular. Whereas men might have been playing slot machines in pubs, bingo halls were traditionally full of women, who seemed to consider bingo a more ‘safe’ form of gambling. With the rise of the internet, bingo halls moved online, and their female players came with them. That’s when online gambling websites realized they were missing a trick.

Women weren’t just sticking on the bingo games and ignoring the rest of the website. They were moving across, trying their hand at other forms of gambling. There was a whole new audience there, waiting to be catered for, and gambling firms were quick to act. Soon, the outdated visuals of scantily clad buxom women on slot machines were gone, replaced with more accessible visuals. Look at Online Slots Sites and you’ll find a gender-neutral space with as many games pitched at traditionally female interests as there are at men’s. The face of gambling has transformed and modernized.

It’s Safer For Us To Gamble Now

When we talk about ‘gambling safely’ here, we don’t mean gambling responsibly. Most people know the difference between a gambling problem and gambling for fun. We mean that the risk of being surrounded by drunken, lecherous men in casinos is a thing of the past. If you still think you can’t gamble because you’ll be surrounded by drunkards and alcoholics, angry because they’re down on their luck, you need to change your perception. The world has changed.

The internet has taken all the thrills and spills of the casino and placed them in your own home. You can gamble from the comfort of your front room, in front of the television. With a smartphone app, you can gamble from your own bed if you so desire! The old-fashioned stigma that might have been attached to a woman going out to gamble isn’t something you have to deal with anymore. Nobody can judge you for what you do when the world isn’t watching. It isn’t just something that men do in smoky halls when their partners aren’t looking. It’s something that everybody can enjoy.

We’re The Wiser Sex

We said at the start of the article that we’re less likely to become problem gamblers than men, and it’s true. If you’ve been put off the idea of gambling in the past because a man in your life has had difficulty with it, it doesn’t mean the same will inevitably happen to you. Plenty of research has been done into differences in gambling habits between men and women, and the results are in our favor.

We’re less likely to bet large amounts of money than men are. Maybe it’s something to do with the male ego. Maybe men are just more motivated by games of high risk and high reward. But women tend to bet lower and are satisfied with a lower win. Even better than that, a lot of modern online slot machines allow you to specify your own minimum bet. Gone are the days when you walked into a casino loaded with notes and change, and the minimum bet was $5. If you only want to bet a few pennies at a time, you have that option. You can enjoy all the fun of the game with virtually none of the financial risk if that’s what you prefer to do.

We Can Fit It Around Our Lives

Behind most men complaining about a busy schedule is a woman rolling her eyes and wishing he understood what a busy schedule truly was. Life can feel like a never-ending schedule of work, childcare, life admin, housework and shopping. It’s a wonder we ever find time to sleep. Tossing the schedule out of the window and heading down to a casino for a night of fun may have sounded like a wonderful idea, but it wasn’t always practically possible. Again, the internet has changed that.

Online casinos are something you can log onto and log off again in five minutes if five minutes are all you have. It can be something you do to pass the time on public transport. It can be the ten-minute break you need to unwind at the end a busy day. The facility is there, on your computer on your phone, whenever you feel like it. It doesn’t have to disrupt your life, it can fit around it.

The purpose of this article isn’t to talk you into gambling if you have no interest in it. It’s just to tell you that you’re allowed to join in with the fun if you want to. There is no stigma and no shame to being a female gambler. Men shouldn’t be the only ones who ever strike it lucky at a casino. So if you’ve been holding back because of an old-fashioned belief that gambling is somehow unladylike, now is the time to throw off the shackles and give it a try!
