I think there needs to be a balance when it comes to ELECTRONIC usage with my kids so going outside is very important to achieve that balance. I also work from home, so I needed a place to go outside and enjoy the freshness plus SUN!
As much as my family likes their electronics we also LOVE the outdoors. We try to do all the work during the week and on the WEEKEND enjoy being outside. We love going on hikes, swimming at the neighborhood pool and also enjoy being in our backyard.
I think I spend more time in my backyard oasis then inside during the summer. Being outside helps with our Vitamin D intake and that helps a lot when we are inside most of the week. I also notice we sleep a lot better when we have been outside all day. When my kids get a good night sleep they are in better moods, I don’t like dealing with cranky teens!
My daughter is learning how to skateboard so we have been going on a lot of walks with her lately. I enjoy watching her grow plus trying new things. Memories are made every day! I remember barely being in my house during the summer, so I’m happy to show my kids how we did BACK IN THE DAY- outside!
We love going to our park and enjoying doing cartwheels and somersaults! Sixty minutes of daily unstructured free play is essential to children’s physical and mental health. (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2008). We totally believe in that because it is just healthier than sitting in the house staring at a screen. My daughter lately has been wanting to play MINECRAFT all the time, and I had to put a limit on her computer time. It is all about BALANCE!
