The Hottest Kid’s Summer Birthday Party Theme Is Movie Night!

Summer is around the corner, bringing opportunities for fun outdoor birthday party themes for kids.

Parenting and party experts agree that a movie night is fun, easy to set up, and can be done within almost any budget.

With a bit of extra creativity, the party can include activities that keep kids engaged and entertained for hours.

According to Nathalie Brown of Press Print Party, an outdoor movie night party is the perfect spring or summer backyard party theme.

Kids will love pretending they’re movie stars if you create a photo booth with props like sunglasses and hats, munching on popcorn, and watching a favorite movie.

She recommends comedies which work well with a range of ages.

The secret to having everyone behave during the movie? Brown says to make them tired by playing active games right before the movie and providing plenty of concession items to keep them happy.

Blueprint is a DIY downloadable party plan that allows parents to select from custom themes or pre-designed ones.

Founders Monique Banks and Ariel Banks Baker say that the secret to any kid’s party, no matter the theme, is to have high energy games where everyone feels included.

When planning a party, Banks and Baker say to pay special attention to what your child really loves, from candy to colors, to make the day feel extra special and exciting.

The idea behind Blueprint is that parents have a guide to creating a magical day that’s easy to implement and stress-free.

Laura Ritterman, Owner of Recipe Fairy, also recommends an outdoor movie party because many parents are still not ready to jump back into having multiple kids in a confined area since the pandemic.

She explains that movie parties are still popular among kids, so having them outside allows you to get the best of both worlds.

You can ask guests to bring their own chairs and blankets if you don’t have enough at home.

Ritterman’s DIY tip is to use a white bed sheet, or a screen and a projector that allows you to plug in a USB or device to play whatever movies you want.

This can be an affordable option as well, as you can reuse the projector over and over again. For kids that are a bit older, host the movie night indoors or outdoors as the sun sets.

Keep in mind that younger children might want their parents to join in the fun too.

If you feel that it might be the case, select a movie that is entertaining for all age groups.

Sites like RottenTomatoes or CommonSensenMedia can help you pick a movie that everyone will enjoy without surprises.

Another tip is to have an intermission halfway through the party. You can cut the cake and play some games which allows guests to stretch their legs and mingle.

Keep in mind that movie night food should be super simple and not messy.

If you are up for adding some extras to make the party feel like a real movie experience, set up a concession stand on a six-foot folding table.

Create bags of popcorn, candy and drinks that guests can help themselves to before the movie begins.

And if you’re really feeling energetic, you can create a popcorn table with all different flavors!
