As a parent, going on vacation is never going to be as easy as it once was before you had kids. Taking children, especially toddlers and babies, on vacation can be an absolute nightmare for many parents. And, it’s no surprise – kids get tired easily, some get travel sick, others get restless and bored, and some just want to scream the whole way there. But, families need vacations too – and with summer break finally here, there’s never been a better time to learn what you can do to plan and prepare the best vacation with your kids – no matter how young they are.

Summer Break is Here - How to Plan the Best Family Trip Ever

Boredom Busters

Every parent will know that kids can get bored easily. When you travel with your kids, you’ll need to be aware of this more acutely than ever, as sitting on an airplane seat for even a couple of hours is probably going to feel like a lifetime for your child once they’ve gotten over the initial thrill of taking off and being on a plane.

This boredom can also spill over once you’ve gotten to your destination – you might be able to lie on the beach for hours, but your child is probably going to be bored and want to play after the first five minutes. For this reason, don’t forget to take plenty of things to keep your little ones entertained – crayons and a coloring book, apps on an iPad and jigsaw puzzles are all great for the flight, and don’t forget a bucket a spade and beach ball for when you’re there!

Choosing a Destination

There are loads of different destinations around the world that are really child-friendly, so it’s a good idea to seek them out before you book. Many places have loads of different places for kids to visit as well as beaches which provide different beach activities for young ones. Many hotels also have crèches and children’s entertainers, which can be a godsend to parents who want to take a couple of hours to relax by the pool whilst their child plays in a supervised group nearby.

Before picking a destination, consider the ages of your children, and look to see what activities there are for them.  Have a look to see where the closest theme parks, kids’ activity parks and events venues are.  Remember, too, that while teenagers may be happy for you to visit ticketsales.com and pick up some sporting tickets for them, younger children will need child-friendly activities that will keep them entertained.

Packing Necessities

Once you’ve found the perfect child-friendly destination and hotel and decided which items are going to keep your child occupied on the flight, it’s time to decide what you need to pack for them. It’s a good idea to invest in a child-size suitcase, as your child’s seat will of course come with a hand luggage space included, so you can utilize this to make sure that you take as much as you possibly need. When it comes to clothing, it’s important to remember safety in the sun, so pack more lightweight clothing which covers your child up such as t-shirts and shorts rather than swimsuits. Sun hats are an absolute essential to protect little noses from dangerous UV rays, and you’ll also need an abundance of sun-cream and after-sun.

Have fun on your summer adventure!
