Is Thailand Good For A Family Vacation?

Thailand is a wonderful country to visit with your family.

The people are friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained.

However, there are a few things you should keep in mind before booking your trip.

Here are 10 things you should know about taking a family vacation to Thailand:

Is Thailand Good For A Family Vacation?

1. The Climate is Hot and Humid

The climate in Thailand is hot and humid, so be prepared for some sweaty days.

The best time to visit is between November and February when the weather is cooler. March to May is the hot season, and June to October is the rainy season.

2. There are Two Main Regions: Bangkok and the Islands

When most people think of Thailand, they picture Bangkok – the bustling capital city filled with temples, markets, and traffic.

However, there’s more to Thailand than just Bangkok.

The country is also home to beautiful sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and lush jungles. If you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation, you should head to one of the islands like Phuket, Koh Samui, or Krabi.

3. Thai Food is Spicy

Thai food is known for being spicy, so if you’re not a fan of spice, be sure to order your food “mild” or “not spicy.”

That said, even mild Thai food can be spicy for some people, so it’s always good to have a backup plan (like bring your own snacks).

4. You Can Bargain for Prices

In Thailand, it’s common to bargain for prices – especially in markets.

If you’re not used to bargaining, it can be a bit daunting, but don’t worry – the vendors expect you to bargain and are usually willing to come down on price.

Just be polite, have fun with it, and don’t be afraid to walk away if you can’t agree on a price.

5. Tuk-Tuks are a Fun Way to Get Around

Tuk-tuks are the three-wheeled taxis that you’ll see all over Thailand.

They’re a fun (and cheap) way to get around, but be sure to negotiate the price before getting in.

It’s also important to note that tuk-tuks aren’t always the safest option – so if you’re not comfortable riding in one, you can always take a taxi or Grab (Thailand’s version of Uber).

6. You Should Visit a Temple

No trip to Thailand would be complete without a visit to a temple.

Bangkok is filled with beautiful temples, but if you’re headed to the islands, you can also find some stunning temples like Wat Pho (the home of the reclining Buddha) and Wat Arun (the temple of the dawn).

Just remember to dress respectfully (cover your shoulders and knees) and take your shoes off before entering.

If you’re looking for a relaxing activity, you should definitely get a Thai massage.

These massages are usually very affordable (you can find them for as little as $5 USD) and are a great way to relax after a long day of exploring.

8. You Can Ride an Elephant

Riding an elephant is a popular activity in Thailand, but it’s important to do your research before booking a tour.

There are many “elephant sanctuaries” that claim to rescue and protect elephants, but in reality, they often mistreat the animals. If you want to ride an elephant, make sure you find a reputable company that puts the elephants’ welfare first.

9. There are Plenty of Family-Friendly activities

From visiting temples and riding elephants, to snorkeling and relaxing on the beach, there are plenty of activities to keep everyone in the family happy.

10. You Might Need a Visa to Visit

Unless you have a passport from a country that has a visa-waiver agreement with Thailand, you’ll need to get a visa before your trip.

The good news is that visas are relatively easy to get – you can apply for one online or at your nearest Thai embassy or consulate.

Now that you know a bit more about Thailand, it’s time to start planning your trip!

Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly vacation or a romantic getaway, Thailand has something to offer everyone.
