Guest Bedrooms for Special People

Guest Bedrooms for Special People

Feel like your guest room needs a little tender loving care? Does it seem a little tired and outdated? Does it say “welcome” or more like “ho-hum” with a shrug of the shoulders? Surely that’s not the look you want your guests to see. Everyone you invite to stay over in your home should feel special as if they’re being welcomed with open arms and a big hug.

So, maybe it’s time to freshen up that space or rip it out and start from scratch. Whichever you decide to do, you’ll want to consider a few tips for creating a guest room that just right for the special people who will live there, albeit temporarily.

Furniture

Whether you decide to replace your complete bedroom set or just the mattress, think about selecting the best your budget will allow. The bed and mattress form the bones of a guest room. After all, special people deserve a good night’s sleep. Whether your guest is Grandma with her cranky knees or Uncle Joe and his back, a good bed means better sleep for anyone.

Lighting

Special attention should be paid to lights for reading. Tired or elderly eyes need extra light, especially appropriate for reading.

Seating

In addition to a complete bedroom set, every guest room should have comfortable seating. If your space doesn’t have room for an actual sitting area, be sure to provide one or two lounge chairs. They’ll be much appreciated. Comfort is the main thing—so straight-back cushionless chairs shouldn’t be considered.

Special Touches

Make sure your guest room is even more inviting, with extra finishing touches that show them how much you care. Be sure extra blankets in cooler months or throws in any season. In the summer, some folks will be chilly in air-conditioned rooms, so lightweight throws should do the trick. A welcome basket of essentials like extra toothbrushes and travel size toothpaste, hand lotion, and shampoo. Every traveler will forget to bring something at some point.

Fresh flowers are one way to say “you’re special” as is bottled water or packaged for one snack. It is also thoughtful to leave a note saying, “if you need anything, just ask.” A temporary charging station would be a practical touch as it seems no one leaves home without all sorts of devices these days.

These are just a few ideas about how you can welcome folks into yours. In the end, all you must do is just make your guests feel special because they are. A guest room should be created with care. It should be more than an afterthought, much more than a spare room that happens to contain a bed. With all the options available today, you should be able to easily find affordable furniture for your home and guest room.
