Cut Down Your Food Waste and Weight At The Same Time – Here’s How

Yes, you read it right. Food waste and weight loss are connected. The more you cut down your food waste, the more chances of trimming down those fats.

One of the most underestimated problems in the world right now is food waste.  Even though it’s a global issue that is slowly putting the planet at risk.

Food waste is destroying our planet more than we know and the sad thing is, we play a big part in it.

Picture this: forests and mountains in the world are being flattened out so that manufacturers could grow food crops and animals.

Nature is not only being destroyed just by cutting down the trees but also by releasing CO2 in the air and harmful chemicals into the water while they make our food.

That’s how much damage is being done just so we can put food on our table. But here comes the worse part.

Cut Down Your Food Waste and Weight At The Same Time – Here’s How

Every food and other stuff that you hoarded in the supermarket, do you know where are they now? We bet some of them are either untouched in your kitchen or expiring away in one of your cabinets.

Our hoarding tendencies do not only impact the planet but also our eating habits and weight. The more food we buy, the harder we try to consume them so that we won’t feel guilty.

So if you’re trying to get in shape, you might want to start with cutting down your food waste at home. We asked our friends at Ecolateral for some tips about it and here’s what they have to say:

1. Strike off the pre-packed items like meats, vegetables, and fruits on your grocery list. Instead, go to the local wet market where you can buy fresh meat and greens per piece or kilo.

Don’t forget to bring your own bags to carry your goods.

This way, you can manage how much food you’ll consume for let’s say 2 weeks. At the same time, you are also lessening your plastic waste.

2. This strategy is also applicable for your pantry favourites like nuts, grains, seeds, and other dried fruits. Instead of purchasing these items that are normally packed in sachets or pouches, buy from bulk food shops.

These shops are the best place where you can control your food stock since you’re only paying for what you get. The best thing about it is that you can use repurposed mason jars and containers when shopping.

3. Avoid buying bottled water. If you have decent and clean water in your area, just install water filters on your tap to purify the water for drinking. If not, it’s better if you just buy gallons of water since these gallon containers are easier to repurpose and recycle while lessening your plastic waste.

Also, whenever you’re going out for work or something else, don’t forget to bring a tumbler. This way, you don’t have to buy bottled water every time. Just refill it and you’re done.

These are only some of the sure-fire ways to cut down the food waste in your household. The goal here is to eliminate trash eventually and the same time, promote a healthier lifestyle.

Like we’ve said earlier, reducing your food waste is also the first step in losing some weight and trimming down the fats. Of course, proper diet and exercise are also needed.

If you’ve finally decided to embark on your fitness journey, you might want to look at managing your food waste from a different perspective. Reducing your household waste will not only help you achieve your target weight, but it will also help save our only planet.
