Well, I’m happy to inform you about something you may be interested in.

Let’s Meat Less is launching Meatless Monday in Columbia on April 12, 2021!

Make Every Monday Meatless Monday

With ambassadors in over 40 countries and 22 languages, Meatless Monday is a global movement.

Meatless Monday is a nonprofit health initiative encouraging people around the world to go meatless one day a week for their health and the health of the planet.

The local nonprofit Let’s Meat Less and the City of Columbia have now teamed up to launch Meatless Monday in our community to stay.

Livestock production generates more damaging greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transportation combined.

If all 131,674 residents of Columbia, as reported by the 2019 census, take part in Meatless Monday for one year, for instance, that will help prevent environmental damage equivalent to driving over 57 million miles.

In local terms, going meatless once a week helps to avoid 240 thousand round-trip drives between Columbia and Charleston. In addition, each day someone eats plant-based adds 46 minutes to their lifespan.

Let’s Meat Less and the City of Columbia plan on using Meatless Monday as an opportunity to also shine a spotlight on local businesses, organizations, and their plentiful and creative meatless offerings, including food, art, coffee, beer, and other goods and services.

The goal is to feature all participants and collectively unite the people of Columbia around this common good.

Alternatively, establishments that are closed on Monday can share their feature on Tuesday in a Meatless Monday meets Taco Tuesday fashion.
