Summer is in full swing. It’s hot, kids are out of school, and all I want to do is suntan on the beach. I love summer — except for when I can’t seem to cool down. During the winter, I forget that I actually like to be cold sometimes, but during the summer I remember just how nice it is. Some people disagree with me, but it can actually be too hot sometimes. Here are a few of my favorite ways to keep cool during the summer heat.

A/C

This option sounds a little boring, but it’s honestly the best. It’s a constant source to keep me from overheating. If you don’t have an air conditioner or the A/C has gone out, hurry and call your local HVAC company for cooling services to get one installed or repair. There’s almost nothing nicer than coming back from a hot walk outside to the welcoming chill of a cool house.

Cold Shower

I like taking hot showers. It’s just enjoyable to me, but in the summer it’s sometimes necessary to take a quick cold shower to cool me down. The freezing cold water brings down my body temperature and wakes me up real fast.

Ice Cream

Cold foods, specifically ice cream, are a great option to help cool down. The only downside to this option is the extra calories…you can justify it by saying “you are eating it to help you cool down”.

Ice Water

Overheating can make you become dehydrated faster. The body tries to cool itself down by sweating more which uses up more water than normal. Staying hydrated can help regulate your body temperature. Personally, I like my water to be ice cold. The cold water is refreshing. Also, you can suck or chew on the ice after you are finished with your drink; maybe I should have added chewing ice to my list…

Light Clothes

Light as in weight and color. Wearing light-weight and breathable clothing can help you stay cool and feel a breeze. Lighter colors reflect light while darker colors absorb light. Light essentially translates to heat. The lighter the color the less heat your outfit will be trapping to your body. Try wearing a white cotton shirt and then try wearing a black cotton shirt and you’ll know pretty fast what I’m talking about.

Swimming

I think the quickest way to cool down on a hot summer day is to jump into the pool. Being completely submerged in cold water is sure to cool you off fast. Swimming cools you down and lets you be active without feeling the burn of the sun. Just be careful to remember your sunscreen — just because you feel nice and cool in the water, doesn’t mean the sun isn’t hitting your skin.

There are lots of other ways to help you stay cool, so if this list doesn’t cut it for you, go and find more. Enjoy the summer heat, don’t just melt in it.
