There’s a good chance that you either know someone that uses CBD or you use it yourself.
That’s because, as of 2019, one in seven Americans was using the stuff.
However, unless you frequent blogs about hemp, you might not be aware of some of the other compounds in cannabis that also have potential health benefits. Some of these include CBN and CBG.
While you won’t find much CBN in a fresh cannabis plant, you can find it in older dried buds and for sale as CBN isolate.
Are you interested in learning more about CBN? Let’s take a look at what you need to know.
What Is CBN Isolate?
Cannabinol, or CBN, is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in cannabis. Cannabinoids are the active compounds in the plant.
It was originally believed the CBN was responsible for the intoxicating effects of marijuana, as it was the first cannabinoid to be isolated.
Actually, though, CBN is a product of the oxidation of THC. When exposed to light and heat, the psychoactive chemical THC breaks down and slowly turns in to CBN.
If the dried cannabis flower or its extracts are left in the light or unrefrigerated, they will have higher concentrations of CBN. Environmental conditions produce the amount of CBN rather than genetic factors.
For this reason, you can’t purchase strains that are high in CBN from dispensaries. However, you can purchase CBN isolate.
CBN isolate is the cannabinoid isolated from the other compounds and components that are found in the plant.
This means there aren’t other cannabinoids, terpenoids, flavonoids, or other inactive compounds.
CBN is mildly psychoactive. However, it typically doesn’t create the mind-altering effects that THC does.
What Are the Benefits of CBN?
It’s important to understand that CBN has not undergone the same amount of scientific research as other cannabinoids.
That means that there is a lot more we could learn in the future about the potential benefits and risks of CBN.
In 2019, a rat study was conducted that suggested that CBN and CBD could help to reduce myofascial pain. It was found that it was even more effective to combine both CBN and CBD.
From this research, the researchers concluded that the pain from fibromyalgia and temporomandibular disorders could be reduced from CBN and CBD.
Anecdotally, there are many reports that CBN can be a helpful sleep aid.
At this point, the only study on the matter in some 1975 and only consisted of five participants.
The study did find that combining CBN and THC created stronger negative effects than THC on its own.
Some people use CBN to help reduce inflammation.
One rat study did find evidence that arthritis inflammation could be reduced with this cannabinoid.
There is one rat study that suggests that the onset of ALS could be delayed through the use of CBN.
Without more research, though, we can’t know for sure if humans would experience the same benefits.
It is possible that CBN is a potent antibacterial agent based on some CBN studies.
They found that it was able to work as an antibacterial agent against strains of bacteria that were resistant to regular antibiotics.
Some rodent studies have found that CBN could have a stimulating effect on the appetite.
This could offer an alternative to people who need to stimulate their appetite but want to avoid the mind-altering effects of THC.
CBD is increasingly believed to be a therapeutic treatment for epilepsy. This is because the cannabinoid has strong effects as an anticonvulsant.
It has been shown that CBN can also function as an anticonvulsant. However, it does seem that it is not as strong in this way as THC and CBD.
Bone Healing and Growth
There is some research that suggests that CBN can help to stimulate new bone growth production.
It is thought that it could also be a potential therapy for osteoporosis, as it might help reverse bone loss and heal fractured bone.
People who suffer from glaucoma also might find some relief with CBN.
A study that involved that found that both THC and CBN could reduce intraocular pressure. This pressure is the number one risk factor for this condition.
At this point, there still needs to be more research done on this topic. It has not yet been proven that CBN is better than traditional glaucoma medications at treating the disorder.
Where Can You Buy CBN Isolate?
As mentioned above, CBN can be found in older cannabis but isn’t very plentiful in the fresh plant.
You can find CBN isolate for sale online from a number of different companies. You can even find wholesale CBN isolate or CBN isolate in bulk.
CBN Isolate: Is It For You?
There are a lot of potential benefits to using CBN, but since it hasn’t been studied extensively there is still a lot that is unknown.
Anecdotal stories abound about CBN being helpful for everything from anxiety and sleep to pain and inflammation.
While you can create CBN by leaving cannabis exposed to heat and light, it’s important to understand that you are reducing the amount of THC in the plant by doing so.
This is because CBN is degraded THC, so the more CBN there is, the less THC there is.
Luckily, there are places you can buy CBN isolate so that you can try this cannabinoid out yourself without weakening the strength of your stash.
