Two Art Books to Help You Get Creative From The Quarto Group

Well, the lazy days of summer are coming to an end, but there’s always time to get creative.  Set some time for yourself, or let your kids do a project with you.  The Quarto Group has come out with two new awesome titles for getting creative.  Pocket Art: Figure Drawing by Miss Led a.k.a. Joanna Henly and Cut Paper Pictures by Clover Robin.  Both books are great to get you learning a new skill or brushing up on your old skills.

Pocket Art: Figure Drawing by Joanna Henly

This book is perfect for taking along anywhere.  It fits into any backpack, pocket (well, most), or just for carrying.  It is 112 pages of wonderful instruction on drawing the body, creating movement, and striking facial expressions.  I don’t have a lot of skill when it comes to drawing, which is one of the reasons I wanted this book.  However, she makes it so easy.  I am sharing one of my drawings versus hers, so be gentle!  It isn’t exactly like Miss Led’s, but I wouldn’t expect it to be.  It is my first body drawing.  There are so many beautiful ways she teaches you to draw.  I am impressed with this book.

Cut Paper Pictures by Clover Robin

If you are into collages, or you want to learn about them, this is the perfect book for you!  Clover offers step-by-step instructions on the basics of how to collage.  She explains it in a way that is easy to understand and easy to copy.  I am always worried that I won’t be able to make anything close to what the book shows, but with this, you can.  The book comes with 48 perforated pages of great paper to use.

Anytime you make your own creations, it isn’t going to be exactly like another person.  However, this is a very good thing!  You want your drawings or collages to be yours, to show a little of yourself inside of it.  Who wants to make the same exact drawing as someone else?  Would Picasso copy another’s work?  Ok, maybe I’m going a little too far with it, but you know what I mean.

Get yourself one of these books and start making your own art!
