Turning Your Hobby Into Your Career

Hobbies and interests might not seem like it, but they are essential to life.

Without having an interest in something, it’s difficult to get up each and every day and work toward something.

Sure, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to transform their hobby into what they do for work, but there certainly are ways that you can do so.

You’re going to need to pay the bills, sure, but you could always turn even an obscure hobby into at least a side hustle and earn some extra cash doing something you truly love.

But it’s going to take some diligent planning and plenty of hard work.

Here are some great career paths you should start focusing on if you’re hoping to turn one of your hobbies into a something much more rewarding!

Sports Writing

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who are truly passionate about sports, don’t think that you missed your shot at making money in this industry after you didn’t make whichever varsity team you tried out for in high school.

There are actually plenty of rewarding careers in the sports field — especially when it comes to writing.

The best part about being a sports writer is you can get out exactly what you put it.

If you are already working a full-time job and just want to spend more time around sports and earn some extra cash, you can work as a part-time writer.

Conversely, if you’re ready to fully dive in and become a published, full-time sports writer, you can make that happen!

Online Animation

Animation Mentor was the first online animation school.

This is an exciting career field that, obviously, hasn’t been around for too many years.

Computer animation is a popular hobby among millions of American students and other people across the globe.

But it’s not just a niche hobby anymore.

Now, there are prestigious universities that even offer this kind of artform as a major!

It’s up to you how far you want to take your passion.

Again, if you’re working a full-time job and just want to spend some more time working on computer animation — and earn some more money doing it — you can certainly achieve those goals.

But if you’re ready for a major career change, this can be an extremely rewarding and fun job!

Start by reading and doing as much research as possible about this career and think about what you can bring to the industry.

What hasn’t been done before? You got this!

Dental Care

Okay, you’re right… when most people think “hobbies” or “interests,” they almost never think about dental care.

In fact, that might actually be the furthest from most people’s minds.

HOWEVER, there are plenty of teeth aficionados out there who actually are interested in the dental field and enjoy working with teeth.

And it’s a good thing there is because if not, we wouldn’t have any hardworking dental hygienists that are actually passionate about their work.

Today, some 4 million Americans are wearing braces, according to the American Association of Orthodontists.

There is always going to be a strong need for dental care workers — so if that’s your calling, good for you!

Keep in mind, you’ll end up having to go to school for a while and it will certainly be hard work — but it will be nice to know you’re working in a field that’s truly making a difference and helping people better their lives.

Humanities

This career is another very broad field that offers all kinds of great full time and part-time gigs.

Every two years, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) produces a report projecting the future security environment.

This field involves you actually helping the human race — it doesn’t get much better than that.

Even volunteering a few hours of your time each weekend can be considered humanitarian work.

But if you’re really ready to make a difference, start thinking about making a shift to this rewarding career!

Whatever you decide, make sure you give it your all.

Nothing is going to happen overnight and even working in a field you’re passionate about can get stressful.

But you’ll love that you made this shift down the line. Good luck and enjoy!
