School is just around the corner. Hopefully, you’ve already registered for classes, found a place to live, and figured out how you’ll be getting to and from campus. Now it’s time to buckle down and pack. There’s a lot of things you can bring to college, and it’s easy to lose track of everything you need. So here is the ultimate college packing list.

Bedroom

Your college bedroom probably won’t feel like your bedroom at home, and maybe you don’t want it to. But you will still want it to feel homey. Pack a comforter that is soft, and colorful to add some color and comfort to your otherwise probably white dorm room. Make sure to bring at least 1 pair of sheets (preferably 2) and a mattress pad and protector. Dorm room mattresses aren’t replaced all that often and you probably don’t want to think about how many people used that bed before you…*shudder*. But putting a mattress protector, mattress pad, and sheets down between you and that mattress will work just fine.

Bring a shoe rack. You’ll probably have a smaller closet than you are used to and it’s important to maximize the space you do have.  Laundry basket. A basket or a bag will work just fine, personally, I like the rectangular laundry baskets that are long in length, but short in height. They fit under the bed nicely. I like not having to look at my dirty laundry.

Bathroom

You will probably need a shower caddy. It will be nice to have something to carry all of your shampoos, conditioners, body washes, facial scrubs, razors, etc. in from your room to the bathroom. This is especially important if you will be using a communal shower. If you are using a communal shower make sure to pack some shower flip flops – trust me on that one.

You’ll want to bring a trash can to keep in the bathroom. As well as a floormat to step on when you get out of the shower. You might even want to bring an over the door towel hook. Be sure to bring a plunger and toilet brush.

Remember to pack several bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths. If you buy new towels to bring to college, wash them before you use them first. A new and unwashed towel will leave a ridiculous amount of fuzzies on you after you use it the first time, not fun.

Pack a cute shower curtain. The shower curtain is a fun way to personalize and decorate your bathroom.

Kitchen

You’ll want to bring a lot of things for the kitchen. Think of anything you use in your kitchen now and realize you’ll want it in your college kitchen. Towels, dishcloths, hot pads, and oven mitts are all kitchen essentials. You’ll want a few mixing bowls, pots, and pans. You’ll also want plates and bowls, cups, mugs, and silverware. Don’t forget to bring measuring cups and measuring spoons. These will be important now that you are cooking for yourself. You’ll also want some spatulas, ladles, wooden spoons, whisks, knives, can opener, and other assorted cooking tools. If you have one it might be nice to bring a toaster, blender, or hand mixer, but these are things you can live without for a while too.

You’ll want to bring cleaning supplies like disinfectant spray, sponge mop, broom, and dustpan. You’ll want to have a way to keep that kitchen clean. You’ll also be doing a lot of dishes so pack a dish brush and soap.

If you are lucky your apartment might actually provide a packing list for you.  Northpointrexburg.com has created a packing list tailored for their renters based on their apartment. It’s also a smart idea to get in touch with your future roommates and find out what they will be bringing to the apartment, that way you don’t end up with 5 can openers and no bowls.
