“The Knitter’s Dictionary” Helps You Unravel & Decipher The Words Of The Knitting World

Do you knit or want to know how to knit? If so, you may want to pick up a copy of The Knitter’s Dictionary: Knitting Know-How From A to Z, by Kate Atherley. For me, knitting is fun, but it is intimidating when one goes online looking for patterns and all you see is a bunch of code and abbreviated words. That’s when The Knitter’s Dictionary could become a knitter’s best friend.

knitter'sThe Knitter’s Dictionary is a new book (release date is October 30th, 2018). It’s not as bulky as most dictionaries, but it is a wealth of information. I like the size of this dictionary because it could easily fit in a person’s yarn or knitting bag. Then it’s easily accessible for quick reference and when you most need it.

I am a beginner/novice knitter and have never actually used a pattern in my life. I’ve only created scarves (because you don’t need a pattern). However, I was able to understand the wording in The Knitter’s Dictionary. It’s very easy to read and has great diagrams throughout the book to demonstrate various knitting terms and other terminology.

In the introduction of her book, I love how the author describes how she began knitting. When she was still learning, she also felt lost and confused with knitting patterns. And, now, she is an expert of sorts in the knitting world, providing novices like me and many others with much appreciated guidance regarding the craft of knitting.

According to an informational page that accompanied my copy of this book, “Rather than making a knitter read through and process a chapter or even a whole book, THE KNITTER’S DICTIONARY is created and structured to provide precise and specific answers to questions at the time the knitter needs them.” It’s a dictionary that is truly user-friendly, clear, and concise.

The author, Kate Atherley, is Managing Technical Editor at Knitty.com. She has provided education in the knitting world and written other knitting books. She even provides classes online! Check them out here.
