The biggest game of the season is almost here and fans everywhere are getting ready. The Super Bowl is one American phenomenon that many people enjoy, even if they don’t like football. Whether you are watching the Super Bowl for the game or the commercials, make sure your party has the best food. The big game demands celebration, with mountains of food, plenty of drinks, and good company. Unfortunately, there are some Super Bowl classics that you should avoid this year, but luckily, there are good ones too!

Wings

Buffalo wings are a classic dish at most Super Bowl parties. The problem with this snack is the sauce. Buffalo and other hot sauces are extremely acidic, which is a nightmare for your teeth. When acid attacks your teeth, it weakens protective enamel and leaves them susceptible to tooth decay. Instead of serving hot wings, go for a more mild sauce, like barbeque. 

Pretzel Bites

Pretzel bites are good…as in, deliciousbut they aren’t good for you. Sure, lots of carbs are bad for you, but what people might not know is how bad bread can be for your teeth. The starches in bread break down while you are chewing to metabolize into sugar, thus making your mouth a breeding ground for bacteria. This bacteria can damage your teeth the same way acid can, by breaking down the enamel and leaving it susceptible to tooth decay. 

Chips and Dip

Your body reacts to chips the same way it does to bread. So, while it’s a handy device for scooping hummus, cheese, 7-layer, or bean dips, try to keep your chip intake to a minimum. Or, you can always substitute your chips for something else.

If you are strong enough to avoid the pull of chips, you can still enjoy dips with vegetables. Carrots and cucumbers are great alternatives to chips and are better for you and your teeth. Carrots, for example, have beta carotene which helps build strong teeth, while cucumbers have vitamin B and C and naturally brighten and refresh your smile. 

Cheese Tray

The meat and cheese tray is a staple at any party, so your Super Bowl party should be no different. Cheese is amazing for your teeth because of the calcium it contains which does wonders for strengthening enamel. Plus, the protein on the tray can also assist in stabilizing and repairing the tooth enamel. 

Fruit Salad

Fruit salad is a yummy and healthy option to serve or bring to any Super Bowl party. Try to include important fruits like apples and kiwis which can help provide vitamin C and prevent cavity build-up. Apples alone act as a type of natural toothbrush because it stimulates your gums and increases saliva flow. Fruit salad, though a healthier option on an unhealthy day, will sure to be a hit at your party. 

The Super Bowl comes once a year, but that doesn’t mean you should compromise your oral health for one day of good food!
