Spirit Runner – An Inspirational Story About Choices in Life

Spirit Runner – An Inspirational Story About Choices in Life

It’s amazing that some people go through huge obstacles in life and collapse, then there are others who have gone through the exact same challenges, and they come out triumphant.  We all make our own choices in life, and each one of those choices takes us down a different path.  This book is about those choices.  It has happiness, sadness, physical pain, comedy, and so many other emotions!  I think you will enjoy it.

Spirit Runner is a beautifully told story about terrible life situations and how we decide to deal with them.  Ron Campbell, the main character, goes through some amazingly tough situations.  His father is an Olympic runner (hence the name Spirit Runner), and he wants his son to follow in his footsteps.  Unfortunately, fate has other ideas for Ron.  This poor boy loses the most important people in his life.  As if that isn’t hard enough, he has to live with some terrible family members who are very abusive.  Sometimes when a loved one passes away, there is fighting among the remaining family.  They can’t always get what they want.  Ron’s terrible family doesn’t want him to have what is rightfully his, however, he does have an amazing Grandfather that teaches him some important lessons.  Thank goodness Ron meets some very good, kindhearted people that help him get through the toughest times in his life.  Gene, his therapist is generous and listens to Ron.  He is one adult he can actually trust.  There is also Linda, the wonderful nurse he meets.  She is another amazing person he trusts, and she is always there for him.  He may have gone insane without the help of his friends that are his age.  Emil and Dovey are very good friends that get themselves wrapped up in a little more than they bargained for.  They refuse to leave him though.

This kid (Ron) pulls himself up from some of the worst situations you could ever find yourself in.  Fate seems like it is against him in the beginning, but that changes near the end.  I loved the message of the book, but I did find there were many times that it was slow.  I felt like there were too many specifics about things that didn’t really matter.  For example, every single time he would see his friends, the author would explain exactly what clothes each person had on.  I didn’t really understand what that had to do with the story.  I am not an author, so I don’t pretend to be any kind of an expert, this is just my opinion.

This is such a feel-good, inspirational book.  You will find yourself crying, or at the very least emotional while Ron is trying to find his way.  He is one of the most determined people I have ever read about.  As a matter of fact, determined doesn’t even begin to describe Ron.  I didn’t want to give too many details, so I wouldn’t spoil it for the people that want to read it.
