This time of year is perfect for picking fruits and vegetables, why not use the abundance of now to prepare for the long months ahead? If you don’t have access to food in your garden don’t worry, many farms charge a small fee for open access: a great day out for the kids that will keep them busy all day. Just try to make sure they don’t eat everything! Once you have acquired your fruit or vegetables set to making jellies, preserves, or pickles. A little effort now will free up much needed winter cash.

While the children are off school and Mom and Dad must find free time, holidays are very popular. The problem is, as more and more families want to holiday prices shoot through the roof and a simple getaway can escalate in price quickly. Lacking the budget for the Maldives? Don’t worry, we are too. Why not try camping in the local area or even your backyard instead? Look for parks near you and encourage the kids to get on board. Remember, holidays don’t have to cost the earth. Even a simple road-trip can suffice.

Yes, we know, it sounds way too early. But, hear us out. Early Christmas preparation can save you a LOT of money when the time comes around, and can save you time during the busy winter period. Those jams you made? Set some aside for gifts. Are the kids bored and looking for things to do? Why not get them making Christmas cards or decorations? Star crafts are fun and engaging and can be given out to friends and family when the time comes.

Who doesn’t love a beer or a glass of wine? The summer months can provide the ideal backdrop for a novice brewer. Read up on ways to make hooch from the confines of your own home. Not only will it save you a significant amount of money during the winter, it is fun too.

  1. Be Thrifty with Old Clothes

Instead of throwing out all the things that don’t fit, try listing them on eBay or another site that enables you to sell goods. Consider multi-channel selling and really get the most out of your wares. Make a day to go through everything and rid your house of useless clutter, you might find you make more than you expected.
