American Heart Month

Random Acts Of Heart With BioLife4D

February is American Heart Month and having a healthy heart is a celebration all on its own.  However, there are several people who live with Heart disease because it is the #1 killer in the U.S., causing one in every three deaths for women and one in four for men.  Plus 1 in 4 people is affected by heart disease in some way. We all need to step up and help in any way we can.  Did you know that that 1/3 women and 1/4 men die from heart disease, only 5K heart transplants/yr annually 600K+ waiting and hoping.

What is BioLife4D?

There are so many patients waiting for donor’s hearts, some will get them and some well it might be too late.  What if that can be stopped, no more waiting and everyone who needs a heart can get a heart?  Sounds amazing, huh?  Well, BioLife4D wants to offer HOPE for heart disease patients. Their goal is to do a 3D print of the HUMAN HEART that would be suitable for transplant.  This would eliminate the wait for a transplant, eliminate the organ rejection and increase lifespan. Wow, right?

Doesn’t this sound amazing though?  It is amazing, but BioLife4D needs our help. BioLife4D is planning an equity crowdfunding campaign in Feb where the general public can buy shares of stock and participate in this journey to save lives! Do you want to know how this works?  Science is fascinating, and it never amazes me on what we can do in this age of technology.

BioLife4D Heart Process

What if a heart can be printed in 3D? Biolife4D has found a way, and it works.  Here are the steps that go into making a 3D Heart. Bioprinted Organs are a reality now. This is not science fiction but science facts!

  • The computer software program will construct a digital model of a new heart that matches the patient’s, original heart.
  • Using the patient’s own cells it will create a bioprinted heart that fits and is a genetic match.
  • Then Bio-Ink is created using specialized heart cells combined with nutrients and other materials needed help the cells survive the bioprinting process.
  • Bioprinting is done with a 3D bioprinter. After printing, the heart is then matured made it stronger and ready for the patient transplant.

Are you ready for some fun for a good cause?

Since February is HEART month why not give a piece of your heart to a child/patient in the hospital. This activity will help kids learn about the heart of course and how a good deed can change someone’s day.  Making a card is super simple and doesn’t cost much at all!  You might even have items around the house that you can use, or go to the dollar store and get supplies!  My daughter and I love to make crafts, so she jumped at the opportunity to make a card for a heart patient.

Take the “Act of Heart” Challenge with us!

While helping to create awareness and raise necessary funds to support the research that will allow heart-patients more time with friends and family. Make your own cards and send to heart patients. This is a great solo or family activity to help give a piece of your “heart” during February’s upcoming heart month! Let all stand together and get help for heart patients and their families.

Being able to sit down with my daughter and explain why we are doing the Act of Heart campaign was a little emotional.  I told her about Jack Radandt, the recipient of a heart transplant that saved his life at age 11 and all the struggles he has had to endure over the years but at age 16 now he is as stronger as ever.  We were quite impressed that Jack was the first single ventricle child in the U.S. to have an HVAD placed. I also explained to her not all heart disease stories have this same happy outcome, which is why BIOLIFE4D’s innovative technology resulting in 3D bioprinting of a human heart for transplant is so important.  We want to give the kids in the hospital a smile, so making cards for them are our way to show our support.

Biolife4d sounds like an incredible tool. It's amazing how technology, like 3-d printing, might be able to save lives. I really hope it gets the funding it needs so more families don't have to lose loved ones.

This is the kind of research that needs to be supported. It can save so many lives and change the way medicine helps people! I think it's nice to also make cards for people who are going through tough times right now especially with their health.

It's nice to be able to help out especially when it comes to people who need it most. Even a simple card can do so much for them! I think it's good to support Biolife4D. They can do so much to help people who need to have a heart transplant.

Such a wonderful thing to do. It definitely pulls on the heart strings (and no pun is intended there).
