Preschool Clues: Raising Smart, Inspired, and Engaged Kids in a Screen-Filled World

How many of us have watched or heard of Blue’s Clues, Super Why or Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood? My family and I have definitely watched both of these shows with our children. Angela C. Santomero, MA, is the award-winning creator of children’s television phenomena. She is the co-creator of Blue’s Clues and creator of Daniel Tiger’s NeighborhoodSuper Why!,  She knows better than anyone and has spent decades working to instill confidence in her young viewers. Angela now has a book, Preschool Clues: Raising Smart, Inspired, and Engaged Kids in a Screen-Filled World, that helps parents of preschoolers understand how to use media effectively and age appropriately.

Preschool Clues: Raising Smart, Inspired, and Engaged Kids in a Screen-Filled World

This book is broken down into five parts:

  1. Watch, Learn, Know
  2. Play, Pause, Repeat
  3. Think, Resolve, Respect
  4. Help, Model, Observe
  5. Laugh, Sing, Celebrate

I feel this is a great book for parents. Sometime we go by what everyone else thinks. We try to have the perfect child(ren). That is not possible. None of us are perfect. It is important to let our child learn and grow at their pace. Some of what they learn can be taught from us, but they can learn from others as well. Others can include family, friends, teachers, and yes, even the television. Some parents do not allow their children to watch television and some do. As a parent, you have to choose which works for you and your family. As Angela writes in her book, it is OK for preschoolers to watch TV, she states yes, as long as it is interactive, educational, and “not too much.”

What Can You Learn

If you want to learn how to help your little one grow and learn, Preschool Clues: Raising Smart, Inspired, and Engaged Kids in a Screen-Filled World should be on your list. As you read along, you will see how you can use Angela’s eleven ‘clues’ in everyday scenarios as a parent.
