Redefining Red: Turning Your Red-Light Moments Into Green Light Victories (October 2018) is written by Elictia Hart, who has worked as an award-winning television journalist. She is now serving as a pastor along with her spouse, Pastor James Hart. They lead Eagle’s Nest Worship Center, which is located in Omaha, Nebraska.
In her new book, Ms. Hart shares experiences from her life, some quite difficult. She makes the reference to red being a signal to “go” in the television industry. Whereas, in many other parts of life, red means “stop,” such as at the traffic light. Ms. Hart proposes turning “red-light moments into meaningful encounters with God, insights on deeper faith, and motivation to go forward and discover all the riches life has to offer” (back cover).
Throughout the book, Ms. Hart helps you find a way to “redefine red” when you are dreaming, afraid, desperate, lost, stuck, weak, waiting, in danger, bold, and when you’re loved. She does so by sharing her life experiences and lessons and through helpful and inspirational advice. And, most importantly, she shares how God is there for us all and how we may possibly deepen our relationship with Him.
I love this book for the positivity and how down-to-earth the author is. Her book is relatable and supportive and inspirational! It’s truly a reminder that God is there for us, whether we are rich or poor and happy or sad. He’s always there for us! This would make a wonderful Christmas gift for many! It’s positive and would be appreciated by many for the gifts it will provide in return for reading it!

Scary God
The next book, Scary God: Introducing the Fear of the Lord to the Postmodern Church, is written by Mattie Montgomery and is a new release (September 2018).
I have heard “fear of God” a lot. And, truthfully, it always kind of confused me. I’ve heard my priest try to reassure me that I should not be afraid of God (I tend to fear God when dealing with sin). And, yet, in the church readings, I hear about the “fear of God.” And, I haven’t quite known what to do with what sometimes feels like a conflicting message that I feel like I’m misinterpreting. So, when I saw this book, I was excited to see what the author had to say!
In reading this book, Mr. Montgomery has a way of writing that is engaging. I love his sense of humor and actually laughed aloud while reading. So, this book is not a dry one—actually, far from it. He draws you in from the beginning with his own experiences in life. And, in reading this book, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief because he does address the issue of being afraid of God. In fact, the back cover of the book points out, “. . . the fear of God does not mean that we should be afraid of God; but rather, that we should be afraid to be against Him” (Montgomery, 2018, back cover).
Mr. Montgomery’s book is very reassuring regarding one’s relationship with God. However, we also shouldn’t take it for granted. I think many will appreciate what this book has to offer. I could even see it helping reawaken the faith in those who have questioned and/or wavered in their faith.
The author, Mr. Montgomery, is the founder of Awakening Evangelism. He’s also the former lead vocalist and frontman for the Christian metal band, For Today.
