Moving After a Natural Disaster

Moving After a Natural Disaster

Whether your building is condemned or you’ve lost everything and need to move to start over, a moving company is one of your best resources during this trying time. After you’ve dotted your Is and crossed your Ts on your insurance coverage, it’s time to start getting ready for the next chapter in your company’s life. If your employees have experienced significant losses, your insurance coverage may assist them in relocating, too, if the distance is significant. Check with your insurance agent.

Floods and Hurricanes

Floods, tsunamis, and hurricanes often leave local roads impassable for long periods of time. This means that there is little traffic in or out, but as soon as the debris is clear and roads are functioning once more, it’s time to move on. If your company is lucky enough to avoid significant damage, most moving companies are able to cope with lower-level damage during your move.

So long as stairways are able to be traversed, you can be moved out of your current building and into a new one. Wet or molding items are unlikely to be allowed in moving shipments.

Tornadoes

Tornadoes are difficult to plan for. Outside of having a very good insurance policy, you are likely to have little left in the event of a direct hit. However, moving companies don’t just move physical goods anymore. If you have cloud data that you would like to hold in a safe, physical location after a natural disaster, you may be in luck.

Many moving companies now offer delivery or storage (or both) of digital belongings. This helps businesses cache their data prior to a storm and be assured that it’s safe afterward. Speak to a local moving company for more information about their services available.

Earthquakes and Landslides

Much like floods and hurricanes, you may be stuck on the side of the road for a time as these throughways are repaired. If landslides or mudslides are likely in your area, we strongly recommend backing up your data to an off-site deposit as often as possible during your monsoon season. A business may suffer hardship if they lose their place of conduct, but a business with no way to retrieve their information is in even worse shape.

Earthquakes are terrible, spontaneous events that require a great deal of cleanup. Don’t be caught unawares.

Fires

While fires are more common on the western side of the country, wildfires can sprout anywhere. Moving after a fire is likely to be the fastest of these events. Fires also often leave surprising amounts of corporate necessities around. If you are in a zone that is threatened by fire and you are legally allowed to conduct business, speak to a moving company before you are evacuated. Many moving companies in these areas are able to do emergency moves before the flames reach your place of business, saving you countless man-hours.

Droughts

Though droughts are often overlooked, very long-term droughts may seriously damage businesses such as gardens, nurseries, and other agriculture-related shops. Those facing hardships from a lack of customers due to the drought (such as pool installers) may be able to move based on hardship laws, to other areas where work is more available. Thus, you may require a moving company to escape a weather-based issue. Sometimes going to look for new clientele is the only chance a business has.
