Movie Date: 7 Adorable Romantic Comedies for Your Next Night In

If you’re weekly restaurant date is getting too expensive, try having a movie night instead. Snuggling up and watching a romantic comedy together is the perfect way to bond with your partner. These seven adorable movies will make you laugh and sometimes cry, so have some tissues on standby. Here are our favorite chick flicks, from 50 First Dates to The Holiday.

1. 50 First Dates

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have undeniable on-screen chemistry, making 50 First Dates a perfect pick for your next movie date. The film is set in Hawaii, which adds a romantic, tropical vibe. Although we don’t want to spoil the plot, Drew’s character suffers from memory loss. So Adam (who plays the role of Henry) has to find a way to woo her every day. Maybe your man will pick up some tips from Adam!

2. Titanic

This film is a classic for a reason. The period costumes and the realistic, reconstructed ship transport us back to the age of the Titanic. Leonardo DiCaprio in his younger years is easy on the eyes, and Kate Winslet is a timeless beauty. The pair has an incredible connection that really sells the plotline of the star-crossed lovers. By the end of your movie date, you’ll both be dabbing your eyes with tissues and feeling extra sentimental.

3. The Holiday

Looking for something a little lighter and funnier for your next movie date? Check out The Holiday. Although it’s set at Christmastime, this film hits the spot at any time of year. Two women (played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet) who are both going through a breakup decide to swap houses for the holidays. Jack Black adds a welcome dash of humor to this charming movie, while Jude Law brings swoon-worthy British swagger. We won’t spoil the ending, so you’ll just have to watch it to find out what happens!

4. 27 Dresses

Anything Katherine Heigl (of Gray’s Anatomy fame) stars in is sure to become a fan favorite, and 27 Dresses is no exception. The film follows Jane, a dutiful bridesmaid who wears comically ugly dresses for her friends with a smile. Jane is nursing a case of unrequited love and wondering if she’ll ever find the right man. Will she be stuck as a perpetual bridesmaid or meet the love of her life? You’ll have to watch it during your next movie date to find out!

5. Just My Luck

Just My Luck features Lindsay Lohan (star of The Parent Trap) all grown up. Her character Ashley has a charmed life. However, when she kisses a handsome, masked stranger at a costume party, her luck seems to run out. This sends her on a journey to find the man in question and turn her life around. There are so many comedic moments in this film that will get you laughing with your partner, making it a great choice for a movie date.

6. Enchanted

Enchanted is often overlooked as a Disney film for kids. However, this adorable rom-com is perfect for a movie date. It follows Amy Adams’ character Giselle, a storybook princess who somehow ends up lost in New York. Patrick Dempsey brings his sarcastic humor and good looks to the film as the leading man. The movie even has top-notch music that will get you and your date dancing. A sequel called Disenchanted came out a couple of years ago, so feel free to make your movie date a double feature!

7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days may be the most hilarious rom-com in history. It stars Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, one of our favorite leading men. Kate’s character is a journalist who’s trying to get a guy to break up with her for a story. So her behavior throughout the film progressively gets funnier and more unhinged. The sharp writing and jokes make this movie a must-watch.

2000s Rom Coms Hit Different

Is it just us, or were romantic comedies better in the 90s and 2000s? In our opinion, they just don’t make them like they used to. Luckily we can still stream our favorite chick flicks or watch them on DVD over and over again. We hope you and your partner enjoy these classic rom-coms as much as we do!
