I do not see too many child authors in this day and age. However, I was recently introduced to a book written by a young author and I have to say that I’m impressed. The book is called “Digest This Now!” by Kai Nunziato-Cruz. Kai wrote the book along with the help of his two mothers, who both advocate for healthy eating and lifestyles. One of his mothers, Liz Cruz, M.D., is a board-certified gastroenterologist. His other mother is Tina Nunziato, who is a certified holistic nutrition consultant.
Together, the three of them have created a wonderful, educational book to teach children about their bodies, their health and how they can go about developing a healthy lifestyle. According to Kai, the book is for children who may be suffering from stomach issues, weight issues, sleep issues, stress, and other problems. However, I think any child could benefit from this book (I know I did).
Kai Makes It Fun To Learn About Health
One thing that Kai said that really struck me was the following: “Unfortunately, our medical system is not set up to get us well! That is why we have to take our health into our own hands” (Nunziato-Cruz, p. 15). And Kai is here to help you do it.
I’m an adult and have taken many health classes and nutrition classes and I still learned from Kai and his book. For example, “Did you know . . . That every time you eat, you should poop? That means if you eat 3 times per day you should poop 3 times per day. Some people don’t even poop one time per day” (Nunziato-Cruz, p. 13). All I can say to that is, “Wow!” I hate to admit that I am lucky if I even go once a day. I hope that’s not too much information. It made me realize I have some work to do and Kai really gives wonderful, thorough, helpful advice that I can utilize.
Some of the areas that Kai addresses include sleep, nutrition (including diet and hydration), stress, your body and other helpful areas. He writes in a manner that is relatable (for kids and adults) and easy to understand. He also writes in a fun way, so the book is far from boring.
You can purchase your copy on Amazon. The Kindle version is $6.99 and the paperback sells for $12.99 (prices subject to change). I highly recommend this book! Great job, Kai! I’d love to see if you and your moms create another book!
