Ideas on How You Can Declutter Your Home

There are many people out there, according to experts, whose level of stress is proportionate to how messy their homes are. If you are one of those people, I guess it’s time for you to declutter your home and organize a bit to reduce your stress level. Yet, decluttering most often is not an easy task, especially if you have the habit of hoarding and are sentimentally attached to things.

However, if you want to have a tidy home, you need to let go of some of your things. Of course, you can rent a storage vault for a fee, and surely this is a brilliant idea if you don’t want to let go of some of your beloved things. There, you can temporarily store some of the beloved clutter that you don’t need at this point without necessarily giving it away.

A Box for Charity and a Box for Sale

Aside from leasing a storage unit, you can also begin to let go of some of the things that you do not really need. At the onset, it would be very difficult, but if you can provide yourself with two huge boxes that you can label “Sell” and “Charity,” I think it would be a good start.

Each day, as you arrive from work, you can spare a few minutes in sorting out some of the clutter in your home that you think you have not used for almost six months. You can also do this sorting out every weekend if you feel you are tired during working days. During weekends, you can engage in sorting out the clutter in each of the rooms of your house. Anything that you haven’t used for a year or two, you should put inside those boxes. When you’re done with sorting, you can bring out the box for charity to your car and personally bring the box to a charity institution or you can simply call the charity and ask them to pick up the box from your home.

Sorting Out Things that You Need

Once you’re done with the sorting of the things that you could donate and sell, you can also start organizing the things that you often need. You should find a place where you would put the important things that you occasionally would need, like the vacuum cleaner, screwdrivers, and hammer. You can segregate them accordingly and allow a specific cabinet or drawer for these things.

Schedule a Garage Sale

You can arrange a garage sale for the items that you could sell. It would be wise if you can schedule this garage sale as soon as possible to prevent you from thinking twice about not selling these things. Moreover, you might be tempted not to sell them if you let the box just sit there in your garage for a long time.

Break Old Habits

You would surely feel relieved once you were able to dispose of the clutter in your home. But you should not stop at that. If you have some habits that lead to the accumulation of new clutter, then you should break these habits and start forming new habits. Otherwise, your home will once again become cluttered with unnecessary things. As a caveat, you should keep your room clutter-free. You should also break the habit of always shopping for things that you don’t really need. Lastly, you should also develop the habit of buying only those things that you really need, and not those that you only want.
