How to Spend More Time with Family

They say there’s nothing more important than family, but when you’ve got a to-do list over a mile long and seemingly no time for any of it, it’s hard to prioritize. Even when it’s your own family. It’s a struggle we all face. Whether it’s making some changes in your day to day routine, or just saving space in the calendar – there are plenty of ways you can start spending more time with your family.

Dinner at the Table

It may seem simple – the idea of you and your family sitting down at the dinner table and having a meal together – but it is so important. Especially if you have little ones at home. It’s been shown time and time again that sitting down at the dinner table has so many benefits to children. Make sure you take the time to sit around the table, no phones, and actually talk to one another. Ideally, this should be a daily occurrence with your nuclear family. Perhaps one treat dinner in front of the TV at weekends. For those that don’t live with your family, why not and organize a family meal once a month? You could take it turns to host and cook.

A Day Out

Depending on the age and size of your family, you may consider it somewhat of an ordeal to see them. Painful small talk with relatives you haven’t seen that much, or you’re just at a loss as to what to do with your family. This is where having an activity can come into play. It relieves the pressure of constantly filling conversation plus it can make family get-togethers a bit more fun. You can take your pick from a whole world of activities. Mini golf, a museum, a picnic in the park. Whatever the season, you’ll find a good reason to see each other.

Family Events

Getting everyone all in one place on the same day can be difficult. It’s not like you can throw a family get together every weekend, especially if you’ve got a big family that’s spread out across the country. So, if you can’t organise that many family dinners or activities, there is still hope. After all, there are certain occasions which people won’t want to miss. Weddings, christenings and milestone birthdays. Make the effort of reaching out to your extended family members and they’re going to appreciate the thought and return the effort. If you’re looking for some lovely invitations to do this, places like Card Factory should be your first stop.

Family is always going to be important, and we could all try that little bit harder to fit in some special time with them. What are some ways you like to spend with your family? Let us know in the comments below.
