How to Buy the Perfect Skirt for You

I am a big fan of skirts. When I worked in real estate a skirt was my go-to outfit. They are so versatile. So, I for one am particularly pleased to see that they are very much back in fashion. Most large retailers like Fashion World are offering a great selection of skirts, this year. The tricky bit is choosing the ones that work for you. To help you with this I have put together a few skirt buying tips.

How to Buy the Perfect Skirt for You

Understand your body shape

Before you go shopping take the time to identify your body shape. You can find out how, by reading this article.

It really is worth doing. Once you understand your shape, as you will see, you can easily identify the cuts that are likely to suit you the best. Plus, part of the process of working out what shape you are is measuring yourself. This is a good thing because it will help you to order the correct size.

Buying a skirt for a banana shape body

For a woman who has roughly the same shoulder, waist and hip measurements, a miniskirt is a good option. It is a great way to draw attention to your lovely legs and make you look and feel more feminine. Or, if you want something a little longer opt for a form-fitting skirt. This should emphasize the relatively gentle curves you have.

The right skirt for apple shaped women

If you carry most of your weight around your waist, search out high-waisted skirts. You want the waistband to sit at the narrowest point of your body and flare gently outwards.

The best skirt for the pear-shaped figure

For women whose biggest measurement is their hips, A-line skirts are ideal. They highlight the smallest part of your lower body, your waist, and skim over your hips.

Buying a skirt for the hourglass figure

Women with hourglass figures are curvy. For them choosing a figure-hugging cut that emphasizes those curves makes sense. Pencil skirts look pretty good on most women, but on a woman, with an hourglass figure, they look even better.

Practical considerations

OK, so you know which cuts to target when shopping for skirts. Knowing this will save you a lot of time and disappointment. But, there are a few more things you need to think about. Here are the most important of them.

How practical is your skirt going to be?

Regardless of the style of skirt, you choose to buy you want it to be practical if it is not you will not wear it very often. So, before buying a skirt you need to think about how and when you are likely to want to use it. For example, if you are planning to wear it mainly for work, ask yourself whether it fits in with your firm’s dress code.

Is it going to be comfortable?

If you are going to be spending a long time sitting down when you try it on make sure you sit on a chair. When you do make sure it does not cut into you or show too much of your legs when you do so.

How easy is it to care for?

Some skirts will need to be dry-cleaned. This is fine if you have the time to take it to and pick it up from the dry cleaners and enough spare cash to cover the cost of doing so. If money and time are tight, it is probably best to stick to buying skirts that you can wash at home.
