Come backward

Let us assume that you have got a riddle asking you about the number of objects available after doing various donations from the initial set.

In this case, if you start thinking from the beginning of the riddle and the total amount of objects in your hand, you could not find the answer easily.

However, you can go directly to the last step of the question and try thinking backward from there with the help of assumed values.

In this way, you will get a rough answer.

If you begin from the beginning with this assumed answer, you will get close to the original answer.

However, this technique would work only in a number-based riddle.

Summarize a passage after reading

Although it may seem like an irrelevant step in solving a riddle, you could improve your ability to see the story as a whole along with its minute details in a short span.

For instance, if you read a whole story in a newspaper and summarize it within a few lines, you will understand the story and then, will summarize it using only the key points.

Once you practice this, you can improve your riddle-solving ability.

Divide and conquer

If you get a complex riddle, you have to split it into several parts and think of a possible solution to each part.

Once you do so, each part of the riddle will give you some information about the direction to go to find the answer.

So, you can find it easily. You have to think in all ways possible even if they seem awkward.

Obvious will not work often

If the answer seems so simple, you should keep in mind that it is a trick.

You have to think in any other way.
