How Can We Support Health Workers During This Difficult Time

Nurses and other healthcare professional need your help more than ever.

If you’re at home worrying about how much toilet paper you have left, then you are certainly some of the lucky ones in this country right now.

That’s not saying you have it easy, everyone is dealing with this situation in their own way.

But when it comes to nurses, and other health workers they don’t have the option to stay at home

They have to go into the places that everyone else is avoiding – hospitals, urgent care facilities and medical offices teeming with people who might have symptoms related to Covid-19.

Everyone’s lives have been upheaved.

But with public health experts saying that the impact of the virus is nowhere near slowing down, it’s more important than ever to support healthcare workers working on the front lines of Covid-19.

Here are some ways that we can support them!

Donate What You Can

Did you realise that some nurses are being forced to take drastic measures such as reusing masks, or making their own because there just isn’t enough?

This is just completely unacceptable.

If you have any supplies, such as gloves, surgical masks, or even hand sanitizer then why not call up your local healthcare facilities to see if they could use a donation?

If not, ask what they might need donating instead.

If you don’t have anything to give at the minute, then why not buy something like this N95 Mask Canada has to offer and then donate it to them?

Anything is better than not0hing, and they’ll really appreciate you helping them out like this.

Obviously, just as a separate note, don’t take masks or hand sanitizer from the hospital.

This goes without saying, they need it more than you do. Since they will be working with people who have coronavirus, they need to keep themselves safe.

Give the Nurses a Shoutout on Social Media

Sometimes doing something as simple as a shoutout can really give a person a boost in their day.

This can really help bolster someone’s spirits and get them to keep going.

Letting nurses and other health workers know that you recognise their sacrifice and care enough to thank them could give an exhausted nurse in your life the strength to work another day.

Remember these nurses could be exhausted at this point in their life.

Some of them have left their families and are staying in hotel rooms to keep their partner and children safe.

Some are working incredibly long hours and are spending all day with Covid-19 patients.

They are putting their lives at risk and it is a challenging time for them.

So, give them a shoutout on social media to help show them how appreciated they are. They are putting their lives at risk so that you can safe.

Stay at Home

At previously mentioned, they are risking their lives so that you can live yours worry free.

That does not mean that you have excuse to do whatever you want. You need to stay at home, to save lives.

If you go out because you are bored and mix with your friends, then you might get the virus.

This means that you will have to go into hospital and the nurse will have to care for you. Again, risking their life.

Although you might also be finding it hard to not want to jump up and help in some way, just because you can help does not mean that you should.

The simple thing is to stay home and practice social distancing.

You could help by getting the groceries for your elderly neighbour if you wanted to but staying home will help flatten the curve of this virus, so it is important you do it!

Don’t forget to take care of your physical and mental health during this quarantine as well – that is also an important thing to do!
