If you would like to enhance your natural eye color or make a gorgeous, bold statement during a night out, applying eyeliner in various shades will make a dramatic difference to your overall makeup style.
Eyeliner 101
Eyeliner can be used to shape and emphasize your eyes. Whenever you apply it, make sure to use a small amount of color, then gradually build it up until you’re happy with the effect. It’s much easier to add more color, than it is to take it away. A great bit of advice to follow learned from my years of applying eyeliner is to work on both eyes at the same time. If you regularly step away from the mirror to assess your work, you can make sure the eyeliner looks even.
I always prefer black, but at times will use different colors, such as shimmery shades or a pop of an electric bright to switch it up. Metallic options are a great choice as they can be vivid or minimalist depending on the look you’re going for—all you need is one rich shade to make your impact.
There are different types of eyeliner, ranging from gel and liquid, powder and pencil. Depending on my mood, I will use any of these types, but mainly find eyeliner pencils to be the easiest and most practical to apply. Any time I use eyeliner, I almost always use it on my upper lashline and finish with a mascara. You can do the same or choose between mascara and eyeliner depending upon your preferences.
For an extra expressive and dramatic look, use an eyeshadow along the eyelid, and add some eyeliner to your lower lashline too.
