Empower Women in Africa This Holiday Season and Beyond with BeadforLife Jewelry

An incredible non-profit organization, BeadforLife employs women in Uganda to create recycled paper bead jewelry. This organization supports poor women in Uganda and Africa through the sale of jewelry created with recycled paper to educate people in America about deep poverty and offers a pathway for them to make a difference. BeadforLife invests existing and future profits from sales into entrepreneurial training programs for women living in poverty, so they can open small businesses, increase their incomes, and leave poverty behind. The female artisans are then able to earn income, gain confidence, feed their families and send their children to school.

They believe that in order to end poverty, women must be empowered in order to transform their lives. With 15 years of experience helping women build sustainable futures, BeadforLife has helped 60,000 people through their combined programs to date — and that number continues to grow. having worked with the very poorest, yet hard-working women in Africa.

More About BeadforLife

BeadforLife began with a chance encounter in 2004 where the founders, Devin Hibbard, Ginny Jordan and Torkin Wakefield met Millie Grace Akena while walking through a Ugandan slum. As they stopped to talk with her, Millie sat outside of her mud home rolling beads from strips of paper under the sweltering sun. Though Millie struggled to put food on the table, Millie found joy in creating beautiful things with her own hands, and she was determined to build a better future for her family. It is these paper beads that has connected women around the world through love and empowerment for 15 years.

The purchase of BeadforLife’s Fair Trade products not only provides increased income for the artisans to meet their immediate needs, it also allows the organizations to offer business training to other women. This social enterprise works to educate and raise funds in support of women’s entrepreneurship training to transform lives. BeadforLife’s Street Business School entrepreneurial training program yields incredible results.
