Elena Ferrante Is Coming To DVD and Blu-Ray With Two Films In One Set!

On October 23rd, 2018, there is a new release that is sure to excite. It’s Elena Ferrante on Film, available on Blu-ray and DVD. There are 2 films included in this set: The Days of Abandonment and Troubling Love. This set has been restored in high definition and this release will be the first time the films are available in North America.

If you’re not familiar with Elena Ferrante, she is the bestselling author of the Neapolitan Quartet. And, the release of the Blu-ray and DVD sets is occurring  just before HBO releases its series, “My Brilliant Friend,” which is based on the bestselling book by Elena Ferrante. Now, onto the films!

The Days of Abandonment

The Days of Abandonment is a film by Roberto Faenza. This film is based on the bestselling book with the same title. It’s the story of a woman named Olga, whose husband decides to leave her. What happens next is her falling into the depths of despair, experiencing depression, self-destruction, and other harrowing problems. What will become of ones life when one lacks direction? This film was a Golden Lion Nominee at the Venice Film Festival.

Troubling Love

The other item featured is Troubling Love, which is a film by Mario Martone. This film is also based on one of Elena Ferrante’s books. It’s about a woman named Delia, who sadly finds out that her mother has died unexpectedly. With an unexpected death, one is left with so many unanswered questions on so many different levels. Delia returns to her hometown of Naples for the funeral. She ends up also dealing with various unresolved issues. Once she opens Pandora’s box, Delia may end up with more than she bargains for. This film was a Palme d’Or Nominee at the Cannes Film Festival.

Both films are in Italian but with English subtitles. The films are also not rated. The running time is 200 minutes. So, you could have an Elena Ferrante fan party and watch both films in one night! The set I received, includes featurettes, cast & crew interviews and a 32-page informative booklet.

The author, Elena Ferrante, has quite a fan following. So, I’m sure many will enjoy this film set! The DVD and Blu-ray sets are available on the Film Movement website.
