Don’t Tell These 7 Things to Your Renovation Contractor

If you are planning any type of renovation in your home, whether it is a kitchen renovation, bathroom renovations Brisbane, or if you are making any other home updates, you will need to hire a contractor. When working with a contractor, it is important that you know how to deal with them. To begin with, you should know what you should never tell your contractor.

Don't Tell These 7 Things to Your Renovation Contractor

#1 The People That You Originally Hired Never Showed Up

You never want to tell the contractor that the crew that you originally hired never showed up. This is a red flag which will make the contractor believe that you are a problem client. There aren’t many other reasons that a crew wouldn’t show up to a job that pays.

#2 That You Learned to Do the Same Job in a YouTube Video

You should never tell your contractor that you watched a YouTube video and you know how to do the job. It takes a great deal of work, experience, and knowledge to become a licensed contractor. By telling your contractor that after watching just one video that you can do their job is just a sign of disrespect.

#3 Asking Them To Do Work That is Not in the Contract

If you have other jobs around the house that need to be done, you should never expect your contractor to do them just because they are around. If it is not in the contract, you should not expect them to take care of it. It is an unrealistic expectation that should never be mentioned.

#4 Telling Them Your Neighbors Will Be Fine With the Work That They Are Doing

You should never tell your contractor that the job won’t be a problem with your neighbors. If there are any zoning, permitting, or other matters that might affect your neighbors, you should talk to them first. Don’t assume that they will be fine with it. The last thing your contractor needs is trouble with your neighbors when you aren’t home.

#5 Promising to Pay the Contractor the Next Day

If the job is complete, you should have the check already written. You should be ready to hand it over to the contractor on that day. Since the contractor held up his end of the bargain, it is time for you too as well. Have the check ready.

#6 There is No Need For a Contract

The contract is not only there to protect you, it is also there to protect the contractor. You should never let anyone start doing any work on your home without a contract. The contract outlines the work to be done, the material costs, and the deadline. It is a very important document to have.

#7 Because the Job is Almost Done, You Will Pay Them Early

You should never give your contractor their final payment until the job is totally finished. This means finishing the work, the final touches, and the cleanup. There are some contractors who are not as ethical as you would like them to be. If you are working with one of these contractors, they could take their final payment and leave without finishing the job. You should only hand a check over when the job has been completed.

Planning a renovation in your home should be relatively simple. You find a reputable contractor, sign a contract, and they complete the work. It is important that you know what to tell your contractor and what you should not tell your contractor. This will ensure that the business transaction and the work go as planned.
