Books to Help You Draw and Paint

Books to Help You Draw and Paint

I absolutely love to draw, even though I’m not that talented.  Practice makes perfect though, right? Some people prefer to try custom paint by number, but everyone has a fix. Practice may help, but so do these books that give you step-by-step instruction.  The first one that I received is Ten-Step Drawing: Flowers by Mary Woodin.  You don’t need a bunch of materials to get started, all you need is a pencil and paper.  The book does the rest!  The second book is Playful Painting: People by Sarah Walsh.  I am terrible at drawing people, but this helps you so much.

If You Like to Draw and/or Paint - You Will Love These Books by The Quarto Group

Ten-Step Drawing: Flowers

This is one of my favorite books!  It teaches you how to draw 75 different flowers, and I’m here to tell you it makes it so easy.  I included one of the pictures that I drew, but be gentle.  Like I said, I’m certainly no artist.  It’s like this book is holding your hand through the steps.  They start you out with only a couple of things to draw, but before you know it, you have already drawn a set of flowers.  I was so excited and proud of myself.  It was fun!  This would make such a great gift for anyone.

Playful Painting: People

This book teaches you to draw people (obviously), but not in a photographic way.  The instructions are geared toward a whimsical look, rather than a portrait.  I don’t have paints right now, so I just used my pencil to draw some of the people.  This I still have problems with.  I have tried and tried!  I think this book is more for people that already have some talent for drawing, but this is just my opinion.  Maybe I just can’t get past drawing the darn face!  I do love how cute and fun they make the people look, though.

Whether you are talented or not, I do believe you would enjoy both of these books.  Like I said earlier, practice does make perfect.  The steps that these books take you through are so easy, it almost surprised me how well I did.  I didn’t even know I could do what I did.  Now it is your turn to try!
