Avoid These Packing Mistake And Make The Most Of Your Suitcase Space

Did you know, as of 23rd March 2022, airlines easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 made the announcement that passengers can only carry one piece of luggage on the plane, free of charge?

Your luggage must fit underneath the seat in front of you — wheels and handles included. If you want to bring ‘large’ hand luggage, it will cost you more, or you’ll have to pre-book seats with extra-leg room.

The new regulations have thrown a spanner in the works for some holiday-goers.

Since the announcement, searches for ‘packing hacks for flying’ have increased by 175%, with travel experts and holidaymakers taking to TikTok in the hopes to help others save space, time, and most importantly, money.

Avoid These Packing Mistake And Make The Most Of Your Suitcase Space

Luckily for us, Casumo have put together a round-up of some of the best packing tips and tricks that have gone viral on TikTok – as well as those to avoid – so you never have to face hand-luggage troubles again.

Folding instead of rolling

Whist folding your clothes might be an instinct, this is one of the most common mistakes.

The golden rule of packing is, in fact, rolling your clothes. Not only does this mean you can keep outfits together, but it also decreases the risk of creases when you reach your destination.

This trick certainly saved space and time for TikToker @Jillcomesclean, who took to the app to showcase three different ways you could roll your clothes for optimum efficiency.

Dress for your destination

Another common packing mistake is not considering your destination.

Whilst it’s a good idea to travel in some of your heaviest clothes, you might not need to pack multiple pairs of jeans or trainers if you’re heading on a hot beach vacation.

Arguably, one of the best packing hacks – dress and pack for your destination.

Packing toiletries

When packing toiletries or fluids in your carry-on luggage, you’ll find you’re restricted to 100ml.

Whilst putting your favourite shampoo in a tiny bottle ensures you have enough for a short stay, it’ll take up unnecessary room in your bag that you could gain back by following TikTok user @emma.mahonn’s advice.

The viral video suggests ordering your liquids online using the click and collect option, where you can collect your favourite items at the store once you’re though security.

This way, you won’t have to pay extortionate airport prices either.

In addition, @emilymakeonfit suggested putting cotton wool pads in a sealed clear bag after pouring makeup remover on them. Sealing the bag will keep them ready to use, and you won’t have to pack that extra bottle.

Tangled jewellery

It can be tempting to shove your jewellery in a purse or wear as much of it as possible in the attempt to save luggage space, but in doing this, spending time taking the knots out is inevitable.

To avoid this, take each necklace in a separate zip-top bag, with a part of the necklace in the zipper and the rest hanging neatly inside the bag.

Rings and earrings can slot into a pill organiser, and necklaces can be neatly stacked up so you never get in a tangled mess again.

Forgetting a neck pillow

Another packing mistake is forgetting to take a neck pillow.

You might be wondering why a neck pillow is of any help when it comes to packing, but another viral TikTok by @anayotothe proved that removing the stuffing and filling the pillow with clothes is a great way to save space and money, advising her followers to “make sure to get a pillow with a zipper for extra stuffing”.

Taking too many plug adaptors

Singer and influencer Tallia Storm took to TikTok with this travel hack, teaching her followers how to save space and not sacrifice any electricals.

She did this by taking just one adaptor plug, rather than one for each item, and with the addition of an extension lead, showed how you can still enjoy the use of multiple sockets! Easy peasy!
