While Central Europe takes the lead in architecture and gorgeous historic establishments, and the South is perfect for beachy summer holidays, Scandinavia wins if you are looking for rugged natural landscapes and adventurous sites!

Numerous stunning places scattered all around the Northern part of Europe will make your trip unforgettable.

But exactly which of those are essential to visit?

Check out our list to whip up the perfect venturesome Scandinavian holiday!

Trolltunga, Norway

Situated in Ullensvang Municipality in Norway, Torlltunga is a rock formation around 1100 meters above sea level and one of the most intimidating natural scenery in Scandinavia!

The views in the area are mindblowing, and for a while now, Trolltunga has been considered a Norwegian icon and one of the most popular tourist attractions.

Primarily for hiking, the site is prioritized by travelers who like their leisure challenging and, dare we say, a bit risky!

The Trolltunga hike requires a lot of stamina and preparation –  this is not your average trek.

The whole journey takes about 10 hours of intense hiking through challenging and uneven roads.

Unfortunately, there are no shelters along the way or stores to buy more supplies should you need them.

However, they plan to build a mid-way house where travelers can rest for a bit!

Fagradalsfjall Volcano, Iceland

Undoubtedly very well-known for its fair share of volcanoes, Iceland is now getting more attention than ever!

For a while now, tourists have been organizing more and more trips to Fagradalsfjall, the most recent addition to Iceland’s Land of Fire and Ice.

Relatively easily reachable from the Reykjanes peninsula, the volcano is still very active and quite dangerous, but what adventure lacks danger, right?

Do not worry, though; the trek to Fagradalsfjall is completely safe and out of harm’s way should the volcano erupt.

It still makes for an exciting time and gives you a great adrenaline rush, knowing that the volcano is still in motion!

Geirangerfjord, Norway

No Scandinavian trip is complete if you somehow miss visiting the most beautiful Fjords!

Speaking of, we suggest using www.scandictrains.com to help you navigate through the countries.

While all the Fjords carry the same impressive natural look and a strong presence, Geirangerfjord in Norway stands firmly at the top as the most gorgeous and most-visited corner in Scandinavia.

With dramatic waterfalls, towering mountain peaks, and clear waters, Geirangerfjord is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but you can admire it from up close!

Primarily famous for striking scenery, Geirangerfjord is also known for quite an interesting story of how it formed into what it is today, so if you are into these kinds of things, make sure to stop by the Norwegian Fjord Center to learn more.

If not, grab your stuff, and hiking shoes, and off to your Scandinavian adventure!

Urho Kekkonen National Park in Finnish Lapland

Since childhood, we have known Lapland to be Santa Claus’s residence and a Christmas start-up point.

Well, hopefully, Santa enjoys touring the natural grounds and hiking cause there is definitely a lot of that!

Urho Kekkonen National Park is miles and miles of unspoiled natural beauty, glistening wintery landscapes, and gorgeous snowed-in valleys.

We highly suggest hiking and exploring cross-country skiing tracks to get your Scandinavian adventure to the max!

Also, unlike Trolltunga, the Urho Kekkonen National Park and its routes are highly equipped to help hikers relax when they need to take a break from their adventure.

So have a cup of tea or hot chocolate to regain your energy!

The Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden

A cluster of somewhat 30 thousand islands, the Stockholm Archipelago can be your next adventure!

Very close, yet so far away – this is how the Swedes describe the Stockholm Archipelago, an area of rugged rock formations, sandy beaches, deep waters, wooded islands, and untouched natural scenery.

There is plenty to do if you wish to explore the archipelago, but mainly people tend to choose cycling or hiking. That is if you are into physical activities and not afraid to get tired.

On the other hand, if you are looking for something more meek, there are plenty of boat rides that allow you close inspection of these deep waters and wooded islands!
