4 Ways You Can Start to Change Your Career Path

More than half of working Americans are unhappy with their jobs, according to Forbes. Unfortunately, many people feel stuck in a career they don’t like because they feel as if it is too late to start over or make a drastic career change. It can be especially difficult for people who have been doing the same job for most of their adult life. However, if you are truly interested in changing your career path, there are several options available to help you get started. If you are ready for a career change, consider one of these options. Changing career can mean many things but if you are completely changing your career path it may require some security checks. Checks such as CRB, DBS, and basic disclosure.

Going Back to School

Going back to school as an adult can be, in a word, scary. So much has changed since you were in school last and it definitely won’t be the same kind of experience you had before. Plus, seeking another bachelor’s or master’s degree means a huge time and financial commitment. While heading back to school isn’t for everyone, it can be the answer for someone who wants to pursue a completely new career path. Adults wanting to go back to school should take advantage of financial aid available to them by filling out a FAFSA form, talking to advisers and counselors at the school and stay away from over borrowing money to return to school.

Working for Yourself

If a flexible schedule and escape from a traditional workplace are some of the main reasons you want to get out of your current job, there are ways to work for yourself and be your own boss without the risk of starting a business. Today, there are so many options for people who want to work for themselves. Get creative and think about what you would enjoy doing. If you are crafty and make jewelry or other items, consider starting an Etsy store. Or you can become an online tutor or ESL instructor and set your own schedule. There are also lots of opportunities for personal shopping like Instacart. Lyft and Uber are also a great money making opportunities if you have a newer car or have been thinking about getting one.

Freelancing

Similar to working for yourself, you can work from home or from anywhere by freelancing for a company. According to LearnVest, freelance writers can earn as much as people in traditional office workplaces and sometimes even makeup to $100,000 a year. While this is the exception, there is still a lot of opportunity for people who have a way with words. Some examples of freelance work include advertising content for marketing companies, small businesses that need website development, curriculum development for schools and proofreading or copy editing. You can also turn blogging into a lucrative business if you use advertisers and other ways to bring business to your blog.

Apprenticing

If you are interested in a serious career change but don’t have the time or finances to go back through a four-year degree program, career apprenticeship programs are a great way to get your foot in the door in your desired industry. Depending on the job, hands-on skills can be just as desirable to an employer as a degree. Plus, most apprenticeship programs will pay you while you learn. Some careers that can begin with an apprenticeship include machinist repair and operator positions, electricians and plumbers, masonry and carpentry, and steel and ironworkers
