Your Kid’s Room – How To Help Your Child Develop A Personal Style

Raising a child is one adventure right from the start – you’re not only in charge of caring and looking after another human being, but also making sure that they grow into responsible adults who are going to be able to make the right decisions while also staying true to themselves once they’re out there in the real world.

This process may sound scary, but it needn’t be!

That’s where starting out early comes into play, where you not only teach them how to be responsible, but also introduce them to the concept of making their own choices (and sometimes dealing with whatever consequences may follow) rather than making all their decisions for them.

In this blog, we’re going to talk about the different ways in which you can start raising your child to develop their own sense of taste and style, right from a young age.

Let’s dive right in.

Kids learn from what they see around them

Whether we like it or not, children pick up on literally everything they see around them in the house.

So, if they notice that you don’t really put any effort into keeping the home clean and organized, there’s a high chance that you won’t be able to figure out how they need to arrange and decorate their room, let alone teach them how to keep it organized!

On the other hand, if they notice the effort you put into organizing the house and even clean and keep it comfortable, they’ll soon realize that they need to do the same in their room.

This is the first step in helping them develop their own sense of personal style.

Not only do they learn from what they see, but also from what they hear.

It’s a good idea to constantly talk to them about having a personal sense of style when it comes to organizing their room and decorating it.

Making them feel like they’re responsible for it will also help in motivating them to take an interest in it. Once you’ve got the basics covered, you can move on to the next step.

Show them examples of different rooms

Take the trouble to show them different examples (from Pinterest or other sites) of how different bedrooms are styled for children around the same age.

If they’re especially interested in a particular subject, such as robots, space, dolls, or animals, try to find rooms that are decorated based on these themes.

This will be sure to spark an interest in them, once they know what their room is capable of looking like.

Once this is done, ask them to make a list of ideas of everything they want to incorporate in their room and then have a talk about what is feasible and what may not be possible or a great idea.

As much as possible, try to make your child feel like they’re in control of the decision making.

For example, choosing wall art for kids room could be a great way to show that.  Whether you have a toddler or an older child, wall art can be used to express their individuality and reflect their own taste by choosing the colors, shapes, and themes that they love.

You can guide them every now and then, but make sure your own style or opinions don’t get tangled up with their style and ideas.

Execute it together as a team

Once you’ve got the basics down, it’s time for execution.

Right from shopping to painting or rearranging – make sure they’re involved in every stage of the process.

This would also be a great time to document the entire process – this will not only become a great memory, but will also be a good way to show them the result of all their hard work to motivate them to own their creativity and be proud of it.

If you need help with the video, you can pick some ideas from these congratulations wishes and include them in your video.

After all, this is a core memory that’s going to last a lifetime. Happy decorating!
