Stay Beautiful, Stay In The Shade

Summer is here! Which means more trips to beaches, parks, fitness exercises outside or even taking part in an exciting activity like sailing.

Soaking up in summer rays are super tempting, especially after a heavy winter.

But we tend to ignore the impact that sunshine has on our skin.

We spent on average approximately seven hours per day exposed to the sun, in summer.

Many times, we slap on sun cream and think this is enough.

What are the Damages?

The UV radiation from the sun can cause significant damage to the beauty of your skin.

If affected, a red hue can be seen across your skin.

The effects could include – scarring and changes to skin pigmentation, dry, flaky, and extremely sensitive skin or other times oily skin which causes acne outbreaks.

You may get a different condition depending on your skin, but it all leads down the same path.

Another common effect is making your skin look older than it should.

Whatever your skin type, too much exposure to the sun could give you unhealthy skin; The sun has no favorites, so everyone is vulnerable to it.

This should certainly not be worth the price to pay for your skin!

Are there any benefits of the sun on my skin?

It is fascinating that UV radiation can benefit the skin when exposed to healthy doses.

When sunlight hits the skin, it allows the creation of Vitamin D, which is released into our bodies.

This is amazing for the skin as it boosts our immune cells to allow a barrier which can repair any damages.

Healthy levels of Vitamin D can reverse aging and can even make you look youthful for longer.

Do not fret, the key is creating a balance between time spent in the sun and away from it.

Experts suggest that there is not a specific amount of time recommended to spend in the sun.

This is because each individual skin type differs from the other.

However, there is an online tool that can give some indication of how long to spend outside.

The tool requires you to input factors like your skin type, the sun amount outside (light sun, heavy etc).

It will then tell you how long to spend in the sun! Solved!

As a general rule, usually seeking short periods of sun within 10am and 4pm would benefit your skin significantly.

Wearing sun protective clothing and accessories such as sunglasses provide an extra barrier too.

Also, applying plenty of sun cream 10 minutes before you go outside gives you the protection you need.

For healthy skin, all experts agree that you should identify the level of SPF you should be using based on your skin.
